Can you tell which graph depicts the heart rate of a 3-mile "all-out" bike sprint and which represents 150 wall-ball shots? The June issue of the CrossFit Journal, "What about cardio?," explores non-traditional modes of "cardio" training and their potential advantages.

10 rounds of 10 bar pullups & 10 rnds 10 bar dips in 12:56
14:35 - 5 different holds for pullups, ring dips (no breaks)
For two rounds each:
Cruxmaster hold - flat hand, no grip - 10,10
Hang board - 3 fingers - 10,10
Single point suspended - 10, broken set
Thick bar - broken sets
Regular bar - broken sets
My grip was toast!
I had a lot of help this morning - four of the mighty feline huntin' cats raced around the basement in pursuit of a mouse, trying to trip me as I moved from station to station. And Puff (not the huntin' type of cat) made herself at home on each of the stools under whichever pullup station I was working. To avoid knocking Puff off the stool, not only did the reps have to be strict with no kip but they also had to be done in a lazy "L" sit position. I needed the ab work anyway...
Ugly...
22:58.0
Went ahead and did the pullups on the rings, since I was there. Form was solid all around, no swinging or kipping on either exercise (ever). After the 5th round I had to start breaking up the dips, but never more than one break in a set.
PS-
This was bad timing on my part...I lifted upper body yesterday. Not much left this morning.
53:00. Lots of ring dip singles. Finished w/KB Windmills.
The graph on the left is 150 wall-ball shots, the graph on the right is the 3-mile run, at least that's my guess.
Kelly - I like your creativity on the pull-ups. Great time. Chad St.Clair and I just want to finish in under 20 minutes.
24:24
Broken sets after 2nd round.
10 rounds for time of:
Pull-ups 10 reps
Bar dips 10 reps
TOTAL TIME=24:42
1/2 way point @ ~9min
first 2 rounds unbroken, rest broken with no less than 7 reps on first mini-set for each exercise
Does anybody else feel like their upper torso was puffed up like the michelin man. I can hardly move my arms after this!
10 rounds
10 Pull-ups (broken sets after 3rd round)
10 Ring Dips (chair assistance after 4th round)
Time = 26 min. Dave you are a dangerous man!
Normally I stick to the WOD as close as I can....but I am still resting my shoulder so I made up my own workout
5 rounds for time:
5 pull-ups
10 O/H Squats
Kettlebell Shuttle
12:30
Finished off with 1000m row at better then 19:30 pace.
Time 16:31. No rings. Did station dips instead.
28:22
Substituted 20 bar dips for the 10 ring dips.
15:30
Me and Schu, no rings, did'em on the dip station.
Much harder than I thought it would be.
Just got the rings set up in the gym today so this was my first time trying the ring dips. They are MUCH harder. I don't know if a two to one ratio is enough. 21:15
About 25 minutes.
Well, that was a killer. I can barely do 1 set of 10 pullups (at this time!) but ten sets? Ouch! All pull up sets broken (badly broken) with lots of negatives. Last week we were told a ring dip = 5 regular dips. I could not imagine doing 10 sets of 50 regular dips so took a stab at 25 dips each set. First couple of sets went well but remainder were broken (again, badly). After 8 rounds, my grip was totally fried and I couldn't even hold on long enough to do a negative pull up. I began giggling and realized the gig was up. I can't wait to see how much better I do next time this comes up. I'm going to blame horribly weak pull ups on the 'gravity sucks' principle that applies much more to anyone over 200lbs (I am around 215).
God bless all you amazing folks that can bang out pull ups like you were born in the trees.
19 min. No rings as usual.
18:41
A big accomplishment for me and Pappas to get this under 20 minutes. The medicine ball torture test we had yesterday did not help us with these pull-ups, as our grips were beat, but none-the-less, we solidered through.
19:23
Ditto St.Clair...getting under 20 minutes has been a goal for awhile. Way to push hard at the end to hit this milestone!! Thanks for you encouragement man.
16:43
Bad time for me, felt really weak on the pull ups.
Been away from the computer...
Did 6 rounds in 25 minutes. Ring Dips were extra low and took a long time to complete.
Later in the afternoon did a 45 minutes fast run and swim combined.
not too good on pullups, dips ok
15:45, great arm workout though
32.45
Destroyed
Ring chins with legs in tuck
Ring dips
Rested as needed
17:10; a mystery since all sets were unbroken except the final set of ring dips. Lost a lot of time moving back and forth between the garage and the living room I guess. Or maybe my feline supervisory crew wasn't as attentive as Kelly's!
32.18
Did 15 straight bar dips in place of 10 Ring Dips.
20 minutes even
Dips 8 sets with 45# added wieght
two sets body weight 165#
Three broken (5 and 5) sets on pull ups body weight only
Seven sets full reps
Started with a 2.6 mile run, then did 5 sets of 10 of pull ups and ring push ups (couldn't do 1 dip so I did something close) 20 minutes to complete.
My 2nd WOD..! Damn this stuff is **hard**...
46:23 and I can't even raise a glass of water to my mouth. Got the 1st straight set of 10; all remaining were broken.
18 mins. Pullups on rings. I went on an anti-kipping crusade today. This was helped because my ceiling isn't that high and I needed a height applicable to both dips and the pullups... so I sucked my knees up to my chest and did 'em that way. Little ab work in there. Not bad. This went a lot better than I thought it would but I feel I should have gone lower on the dips. Next time.
-D.
well June 4 is my third workout so I guess I need to confess how poor I am doing..Took me 33 minute to do 6 sets and can you say broken sets?? Can you say cheat, negative, straining my butt off? Arms felt like they would burst. You are killing this 43 y/o!!!
Did this after range training in the blazing Florida sun all day.
Approx 19 to 24 mikes.
Pullups broken from 4th set to 10th.
Ring dip/bench dip combo (ring to failure then finish reps on bench)
