Coach did a journal issue a while ago that focused on the handstand. I'm curious about how others are doing with learning to walk on their hands. I'm struggling, ie I'm primarily working on mastering handstands and handstand pushups still. Those of you who have not yet subscribed to the journal are missing out. The Journal is so excellent that as we get to the end of the month, I feel like a kid at Christmas. I can't wait for the month to end so that I can read the new journal. It will change the way you do your WOD and you will get the most out of Crossfit.

Hi Mike,
Couldn't agree more about getting the Journal. I have also been working on handstands since the Jan. Journal. I took coaches advice and added the three exercise in the CrossFit Journal to my daily routine. I am about where you are, still working on holding a handstand off the wall and doing good handstand pushups.

Mike and Jeff,
I'm doing the same as you guys. To reach the goal of walking 100 ft. on your hands I think it's important to start using less of the wall for help. Yesterday my buddy Chad and I practiced on the lawn, just trying to hold a handstand. We discovered it's better to use the slower "take-off" method (from the Jan. CrossFit Journal) vs. kicking into the handstand, because you'll have better stability to hold it.

Being that I'm already a gymnast, I can walk pretty far on my hands. :D

Beautiful day outside - just right for a little kettlebell tossing!

1 min single jump rope alternated with 1 min of two hand flip catches or bottoms up catches for 10 minutes. It's been a while since I've tossed the bells and my knuckles paid the price.

What is a kettlebell "toss" and/or "catch"? I did swings last night with my brand new bells and it kicked my butt.

Mark,

I learned them from Jeff Martone's Hand to Hand video - you treat the exercise as a regular swing and release the bell at the top, giving it a flip (or two or more) and catching it by the handle. The bottoms up catch is the same except you catch the round part of the bell in your palms in the top position (be certain to have your elbows tight to your body during the catch) and you flip it away from you to catch the handle on the way down. You can do these with either one or two handed. Great fun!

Turn those "rings" out. Really work so that your rings are parallel. You'll get a much more solid handstand that way.
