I am unable to do the double unders at this time due to an injury to my calf. Anyone have any suggestions of an exercise i could do as a replacement?

I reckon Tababta sqts would be good and avoid impact to the calf.

Where is Crossfit East?

Comment #3 - Posted by: Mike at April 25, 2004 4:10 AM

Focused on catching the weight lower on the clean and push jerk. Still not where it should be. Shoulders burned during the double unders.

REPS
133: 5 minutes of double unders
25: 5 minutes of 95 lb clean and push jerk
61: 3 minutes of double unders
15: 3 mintutes of 95 lb clean and push jerk
41: 1 minute of double unders
9: 1 minute of 95 lb clean and push jerk

Still can't do doubleunders; I got maybe 3-4 each round. Spent lots of time with the rope tangled around my ankles and trapped in the tread of my shoes.

While I was disappointed with the jumping, I was pleased with the cleans and presses. I decided to try using 95# - I was unsure if I safely and solidly put that weight above my head. All the cleans were fast and butt to the ground and all the presses were tight. 11-9-4 for the rounds. I gained confidence after the first round; I'll be looking to try this weight overhead in future workouts.

Finished the WOD with another 9 minutes of regular jump roping.

Nice job Kevin!

modified slightly
instead of double unders did 100yd (approxim) sprints and 5 burpees = 1 round

5 min - 4 rounds (had to stop and discipline kids)
5 min - 20 reps clean and push jerk
3 min - 2 rounds
3 min - 10 reps
1 min - 1 round
1 min - 8 reps

should have pushed harder on both but it was pretty tough WOD

I have a hard enough time with single unders so I just jumped rope with the help of billy joel as the time is shown on my iPod & did all tle clean& push jerks with a 2inch thick large grip bar @ 85lbs.
presses THE STRANGER 5:09 15 reps
jump rope THE PIANO MAN 5:26
pressesTHE ENTERTAINER 3:40 8reps
presses 5reps 1 min
jump rope MOVIN OUT 3:30
moped up the floor to SAY GOODBYE TO HOLLYWOOD 3:40 and I said HELLO to CROSSFIT once again.

If I could do double unders for 30 seconds I'd be happy! 5 MINUTES? PLUS, 5 minutes with 95# clean and push jerk? To all of you that can actually perform this WOD as stated - VERY IMPRESSIVE!!

I can't bring a jump rope to my gym. So, I did as many clean and push jerks as I could with 95# until I almost met Fainty (Pukie's cousin). Then I did lunges (4 alternating steps) stopped and did 5 reps of shoulder press (this is just like that one WOD where you're supposed to walk 1/4 mile lunging and performing shoulder presses every 4 steps). Needless to say I didn't go 1/4 of a mile. I did manage to walk across the gym floor 3 times.

Total work out time including mile run = 33 minutes.

Time - Double Unders - 95# Clean/Press Jerk
5 min. ..... 192 ....................... 26
3 min. ..... 122 ....................... 15
1 min. ....... 76 ....................... 11

My form on the Clean/Press Jerk's was horrible. Struggling for the first 5 minutes did help me work out some of the kinks in my form, did better in the other 2 intervals. I jump rope alot but hadn't done Double Unders regularly, now I know why. Not very consistent, could only do about 30 to 45 seconds straight without stopping.

This is my first posting. I have been doing the WOD's for about three weeks. I thought I was in relatively good shape until I started doing Crossfit!

Was not able to perform the double unders consistenly (spent more time untangling myself that jumping rope) so I jumped rope as fast as I could for the alloted times.

Reps for the clean and push jerk:
5 min: 33
3 min: 20
1 min: 11

I was definitely able to distinguish the difference between a push jerk and a push press!

Great WOD!

The double unders are more frustrating than playing golf!!! I kept the jump rope going for 5, 3 and 1 minute, but double unders were messing me up.

Got together with Mark Mueller at his place for this one.Mark has the total Crossfit set-up at his place and it was great training with him.

Not proficient at double-unders yet, so I just did straight skipping for all three rounds.

Reps for the clean/jerk:
5 min= 28
3 min= 21
1 min= 14

Followed the WOD with weighted pull-ups for a total of 34 reps.1 set of unweighted for 5 reps.

Closed up with 3 rounds on the heavy bag.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Matt Toupalik at April 25, 2004 1:09 PM

Forgot to add, I only used 75 pounds as my form in the clean/jerk was a bit rusty.Great WOD.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Matt Toupalik at April 25, 2004 1:21 PM

Good combination. The double unders warmed up my shoulders for the C&Js. Got through it well, but my double unders are mostly like single unders! Anyway, since yesterday was a rest day and I missed several WODs last week, I made up my own WOD for Saturday:

Deadlift 15, 12, 9
1 minute heavy bag, alternating leg roundhouse kicks
Push press 15, 12, 9
1 minute heavy bag, alternating leg roundhouse kicks
Squat 15, 12, 9
1 minute heavy bag, alternating leg roundhouse kicks
30 kettlebell swings
1 minute heavy bag, alternating leg roundhouse kicks
dumbell snatches with each arm (only could get 10 for each arm)
1 minute heavy bag, alternating leg roundhouse kicks

I was nuked.

I didn't feel particularly strong with this workout. I did use 95lbs., but I mainly concentrated on form for the C&PJ. Rounds of 17, 13 and 7. Truth be told, I was pretty ticked at myself for not getting more reps...but I guess they'll come (in the end I'll trade reps for good form any day).

Double unders weren't real good...no consistency to them. I mainly just skipped rope for the alotted time, occasionally attempting to work in the double unders. I need to practice.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Matt G. at April 25, 2004 4:50 PM

I've got to say that my c&pj form is HORRIBLE - this is my first go at them...used 75lbs. Found that I was overpowering the weight with my upper body and not getting down into the squat to lift the load with my legs - I think its a confidence and technique issue.
Double unders were great - never knew how many I could do!

Rnd 1: 5 min - dbl undrs - 247, C&PJ - 22
Rnd 2: 3 min - dbl undrs - 177, C&PJ - 13
Rnd 3: 1 min - dbl undrs - 81, C&PJ - 5

Double-unders and 95# power clean/push jerk:

5 mins: 90/16
3 mins: 60/10
1 mins: 23/5

Back won't take squat cleans, so power cleans was the flavor of the day.
