Bad guessing on my part...yesterday was a VERY upper body-centric day on my part (full UE lift, swimming and a boatload of calisthenics). Not much left in the tank today. Oops...

BW...170lbs.
Set...BP...PU
1.....17...17
2.....17...17
3.....15...16
4.....15...16
5.....15...15

I'm wasted...

BW 168, Bench 170
Set BP PU
1 - 10 - 19 *PR on PU
2 - 10 - 15
3 - 10 - 15
4 - 9 - 15
5 - 9 - 15

* When I started Crossfit in Feb. I could only do about 7 Pullups so I feel pretty good about my 19.

Comment #2 - Posted by: KevinA at April 22, 2004 5:43 AM

Nice job Kevin! Congratulations!

Comment #3 - Posted by: Matt G. at April 22, 2004 5:49 AM

BWT - 178, BP - 180

BP PU
12 15 * new PR
10 8
8 8
7 8
6 8

My goal was no less than 8 pull-ups, but I wish the bench would have stayed higher. Great job, Kevin.

Comment #4 - Posted by: chad stclair at April 22, 2004 6:26 AM

bwt 114 - bench 115
single point suspended pullups

BP/PU
18 24 - new PRs on both bench and pullups
12 18
12 15
12 15
13 15

One rep more on both the bench and the suspended pullups compared to 040410. I'm pleased to see my bench inching along in the right direction and I'm surprised the pullups went as well as they did considering how sore my lats are from yesterday.

Excellent time Matt and great job Kevin!

Comment #5 - Posted by: kelly at April 22, 2004 6:44 AM

Kelly, what is a single point suspended pullup? I seem to remember your PR as 32. I was fried also today, from yesterday's knees-to-elbows, which for me work out to a kind of half-L-pullup. So the bench was ridiculous: 160 pounds times 3 each set. Pullups were 30, 20, 20, 16, 12. And it took me 19:47. Shaw was right, old age is a shipwreck.

Comment #6 - Posted by: adam at April 22, 2004 7:10 AM

Kelly and others. What pacing scheme are you using?Obviously the amount of rest between each round will really influence the numbers. Matt pushed right on through and showed amazing consistency for the latter rounds.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Ed Velasco at April 22, 2004 8:13 AM

Ed...

Personally, I took about a minute between each round (end of PU to start of BP). Endurance has always been one of my strong suits. I can't really push a lot of weight...but what I do move I can keep doing consistently without much rest.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Matt G. at April 22, 2004 8:20 AM

Kevin,

In just a couple of months you've almost tripled your pull-ups! That's some pretty awesome improvement. I've got some work ahead....my best ever was 17, overhand slightly wider than shoulder grip. I'm back down in the 7-8 range now due to inconsistant efforts, and a shoulder injury hasn't helped, but that's getting better. I'll see how the workout goes later, keep it up and thanks for the inspiration!

Comment #9 - Posted by: Ross at April 22, 2004 8:22 AM

Adam,

I took my dust covered pulldown bar and hung it from a floor joist. It is suspended by a rope where it would have clipped onto a pulldown cable. The bar swings and spins freely; it doesn't reward kipping and uneven pulls (my right side is considerably stronger than my left). It also works my grip much harder and "shuffling" my hands to extend a set just can't happen. I borrowed the idea from the torque athletic site.

I can do more pullups on a solid stationary bar than I can on this variation. I'm thinking that if I can increase numbers on rings or a moving pullup bar, the numbers on a "quiet" bar should go up too.

I don't have good endurance; I gave myself 2 minutes rest between efforts. Matt's numbers are very impressive.

Thanks Rob for the comment yesterday!

My BW = 225
BP - 9/6/4/4/4
Pullups - 7/6/5/4/4

TIME: 32min 48sec

stronger in bench then when we did this apprx 2 weeks ago (BP+4reps)

stayed the same in pullups.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Chris at April 22, 2004 9:24 AM

bw 177, bench 155

bench: 5-6-6-6-6
pullups: 15-12-10-10-9

Improvement in both. Bench one of my weaknesses, but added a couple reps at this wt. First round of pullups same as last time, but increased reps during later rounds.

Ross,
Hope that shoulder gets better. I've got an instable shoulder that I have to be careful with. One small tweak is all it takes so I know how you feel. Too much baseball through the years.

Thanks for the comments on the PR everyone.

New maxes on the first set; the rest lagged a bit behind the 4/10 WOD. Of course, 250 pushups and 75 pullups worth of GTG yesterday didn't help!

Lynne - that's outstanding! Looks like you own this WOD. I guess you are looking at 40 pullups by May 12 now...I better get going! :)

Comment #23 - Posted by: kelly at April 22, 2004 5:31 PM

Didn't have access to bench, and I've got those new rings hanging in the garage, so ring dips instead of BP.

Coach,
Wow, thanks! My very own workout!

Kelly,
I'm sticking to the 40 by Sept, thank you! Hopefully between now and 12 May, the pullups between 25 and 30 will get closer together.

Bench weight - 190
BP PU

This is the first time that my pullups have been able to stay that consistent AND exceed my bench press reps. Comparing to the first 5 rounds of last week's 7 rounds for reps I dropped by 7 on bench and 1 on pullups.

Comment #28 - Posted by: Scott at April 23, 2004 4:05 AM

Used 35# dumbbells -- up from 30# a couple of weeks ago.

Bench/pullup

More reps on almost every set, with heavier weights, than with the similar 7-set workout a couple weeks ago. "Lynne" is a great workout.
