Well, I modified slightly. Last time I tried at 1.5BW, I tweaked my back...I think it's a little too heavy for me just yet. So, I went at 1.33BW.

I finished 8 rounds (using 225lbs.). Nailed the 7th pullup of the 8th round just as my watch went off.

Form was good, deadlift was a little bit more than I did last time. A decent WOD for me.

Used 255 on the deadlift at 168 lb body weight. Finished 8 sets but had broken sets on the last 2 sets of deadlifts. Also lost a bit of skin on my hands as well as a result of grip giving out which was the limiting factor in this WOD for me.

7 rounds

bw 177, deadlift 265. Grip toasted by the end of session.

150 bwt,225 dlifts, 7 pullups;9 and 1/2 rounds. Does any one know when we last experienced this specific agony? Thanks

Comment #4 - Posted by: Ed Velasco at April 18, 2004 10:33 AM

I completed 7 rounds at 315lbs. for the deadlift.
After the the third set I was forced to do breakdowns on the pullups in 5-2. This was a hard one and I know that I will be feeling it tomorrow.

I'm a newbie to the WOD - today is only my 3rd. How do you warm up for these intense workouts - or don't you?

Comment #6 - Posted by: Andy P. at April 18, 2004 11:59 AM

Andy, I think it's a bit of "personal preference" regarding warmups. For example...today I worked on the elliptical trainer for about 10 minutes first, then did some very light deadlifts (like 135lbs.), then stretched my legs and lower back. After that I was good to go.

I guess my advice (if it means anything) would be to warm up to your satisfaction...so that you're confident you're ready to work.

BW 185

Deadlift (with Trap Bar) 275

6 sets with about 50 seconds to spare so I just stopped there. Will try to get at least 7 sets next time.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Brian at April 18, 2004 12:18 PM

Thanks, Matt,

I just completed - as you suggested - 10 min eliptical - didn't stretch enough. Not strong yet in the olympic lifts - did 9 sets at 125 lbs (75% bodyweight of 160) with 7 pull ups each time - different grip on each set of pullups. I'm having a very hard time typing my arms are so pumped up right now! AWESOME!

Comment #9 - Posted by: Andy P. at April 18, 2004 12:27 PM

Yeah, my forearms were fried after this workout. I made it through without breaking up the sets...but I was laughing (sick reaction, I know) when on the 7th pullup of each set my grip was failing...to the point that I probably couldn't have gotten an 8th or 9th rep.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Matt G. at April 18, 2004 12:32 PM

bwt 114; trap bar deads @ 170. 11 rounds, no breaks. Variety grips on the pullups.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at April 18, 2004 3:44 PM

Great job Lynne.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Ed Velasco at April 18, 2004 3:53 PM

Reduced the weight to 3/4 bw (135 lb. weight)

4 rounds -- got started on the pullups for a 5th. Broke all the sets of pullups.

Decided I could skip my anticipated grip workout...practiced hollow rocks instead.

Body Weight 180
Dead Lift 150 (83% of BW)

First 2 round of Pull-ups - 7 reps, following sets 4+3

Comment #14 - Posted by: mark at April 18, 2004 4:04 PM

hadn't posted in a long time but have still been doing crossfit

modified somewhat b/c it was 10pm and almost didn't feel like doing it, its hard to get off of the couch and go downstairs to do crossfit, anyway,

5 rounds for time
295#x5 deadlifts
5 ring pullups

13 min

anyone have any thoughts on what the best time to workout is - it just seems like at night is the only time i can find - 2 kids a wife a job eats up a lot of my time :)

thanks!

Comment #15 - Posted by: alex at April 18, 2004 7:11 PM

by the way, messed up and did 1.59 BW on deadlifts

bw = 185#

Comment #16 - Posted by: alex at April 18, 2004 7:13 PM

Gene and Paresh
bw = 175
deadlift = 265
rnds = 8

Comment #17 - Posted by: Gene at April 18, 2004 7:19 PM

315# trap-bar deadlifts (stood on a 45# plate to increase the length of the pull).

6 rounds.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Laurion at April 18, 2004 8:55 PM

Used 95# for the deadlifts. 20# vest worn for both exercises. Started breaking sets of pull-ups with the 8th round. Got through the deadlifts of round 16 with 5 seconds to spare. Grip is fried.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Ryan at April 19, 2004 10:08 AM

First time doing deads without straps, it was not fun going, heh.

bw: 180

dead: 225

rounds: 5

all broken sets on the pullups, first two or three sets were straight through for deads then broken after that

Comment #20 - Posted by: Sebastian at April 19, 2004 2:33 PM

Time: 17:21
Used 315lbs for first 3 rounds then had to drop down to 285lbs.

Oops, I did 12 reps for all my pull ups. My hands are raw now!

Comment #21 - Posted by: KEG at April 19, 2004 6:22 PM

Time 17:32 (was aiming for a round every 2 minute)
bw = 196 lbs
5 rounds with deadlift 310 lbs and pullups w bw + 22 lbs
then had to reduce to dl 270 lbs and pullups bw another 3 rounds
This was a killer!

Comment #22 - Posted by: NilsT at April 19, 2004 11:33 PM

Thanks Ed! Somehow I'm sure that Kelly would have done about 14 rounds, which inspired me to at least get into the double digits.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at April 20, 2004 3:47 AM

8 rounds with 250lbs (1.3x bw). Grip was toasted and hands are blistered...lovin' it!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Scott at April 20, 2004 5:59 AM

5 rounds with 345 (230 bodyweight). I was hoping to get 7 rounds, but after the first rep I knew it wasn't going to happen. I wasn't feeling too perky, so I thought briefly about quiting, but I just don't do that. I told myself: "Quit if you want, you $%#@ $@#%, but post the damn result, even if it's 2 rounds. Pride got me to five. I tore my hands to hell. Overall a tough workout. I've been throwing a lot, so my back is tired.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Barry Cooper at April 20, 2004 4:59 PM

6 rounds with about 1:15 left, modified.

Since I've never approached BW (195), I started with my PR: 135. Managed to stick with it, most sets 4/3. Am slowly learning not to engage my lower back, but not always successful - will be sore tomorrow. Got some nice scrapes on my shins.

PUs typically 3/3/2.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Chris K at April 20, 2004 6:04 PM

Reduced DL to 130 lbs (160 bw) unbroken sets
Pullups unbroken but w/slight cheating with a lil push of the toe off the floor to help with the higher reps.

6 rounds with 30 secs to spare.
