Somewhere in the Sierra's????
How about somewhere near Yosemite N.P. I have been there a few times and it looks familiar....
Minarets of Eastern Sierras?
Is that Lake Tenaya Lake?
Managed 4 rounds in 30 mins before I had to leave for work. My 2 year old daughter woke up in the middle of the WOD jumped on my chest whilst doing situps, hung from my legs whilst doing pull ups, and asked why I was growling & grunting like a lion during the press up phase. Great motivation!
can someone explain what a jump & touch is? also, i'm confused about the 5lb weight.
thanks!
Scott, Jump and touch is a marker for jumping up and touching a point in the air approx 19-24 inches vertically. Some us us jump as high as we can each time. Its very taxing. We also string a piece of ribbon on rope with a washer from the ceiling to perform this exercise. If you have a large group, running a line from wall to wall with thumtacks also allow for a large group jump effort.

When I first saw this WOD, I thought it looked fun. Well, no more of that thinking. This one ate me for breakfast and spit me back out. Those jump-ups had my feet, my heart, and my head pounding...Ouch.
Are the squats body weight only?
Dave,
Yes-body weight only.
Chad,
You weren't kidding. This one was cruel. The jumps did me in...I was optimistically trying to do them in minisets of 10, but soon I was doing 5s and 3s. I'm certain there must be a feel and balance to these like box jumps have, but I sure couldn't find it. I was falling and tripping over myself - looking oh so very athletic. I locked the cats upstairs for this WOD to keep their tails intact.
Everything else went well, with only two short breather pauses during the last rounds of squats. The jumps took so much time that I was even able to do all 5 sets of pushups and ring pullups without any breaks. 24:17 of agony. It would been easier to run 400 meters than jump.
Kelly,
You hit it right on...bring on the 400 meters!! Bring on 800 meters for that matter. I, too, was tripping and sputtering and looking like I just left from a long night at the bar. So, Coach, was the idea to destroy the legs the day before Gwen?
32:35. But anyone who thinks I was getting 18 inches of air is overly sweet and also delusional. For this workout I am challenged not only by age but also by ethnicity. After all, my son starting taking rebounds over my back from the age of about 10. I never thought I would say running is easier than anything.
34:12 Jump ups were killer. Had my head spinning.
How do you spell J-E-L-L-O? 50 jump-n-touch x 5. You all have a great nack of flushing my weak points out. And I love it! I was lucky enough to have a wall nearby to catch me a few times.
4 rounds in 40 minutes. I just did not have it today. Worked out at a new gym and it really effected my mindset.
Jump and touches were 12" or so. Legs still fatigued from 10k.
Today was for time, Tomorrow for load, Thursday for fun? Yeah right? Fun!?! Who are you trying to fool, Coach?
Called it a day after 3 rounds in 25 min. Recovering from upper respiratory infection and felt very feeble after round 3. Of course if I was 100%, just thinking about another 100 jumps would have made my knees weak anyway :P
35:56 Could'nt jump the 18" even half the time. I'll be heading back to Gym Jones next week. I'm gettting stronger and staying motivated.
Didn't have anywhere to hang a 5# plate to "jump and touch". Not that it would have mattered. By the end I was happy that I was leaving the ground at all. The rest went well no breaks. I was going to work on leg defenses in kickboxing this evening, think we will work hands instead. Total time 24:30.
I substituted my own wod similar to this but I didn't have a pullup bar handy today so my workout went like this:
3 cycles of
50 1 pood kb swings Ouch!
40 squats
30 situps
20 elevated pushups with parrallettes(sp?)
Time of 25:10
My legs are still shaking as I type this:)
Had to throw in the towel & get ready for work after 3 sets. Won't even mention the time, too embarassing.
I used the ceiling over a stair landing for my jumps -- almost jammed a couple fingers. Probably not quite 18", but pretty close and I was strict on not counting any reps where I didn't touch.
It's not the jumping that's the hard part, it's the breathing during the jumps.

Let down my country :( but im not used to timed reps anyhow nice site I think ill follow it! but for now a bath those jumps hurt me ;) I guess I can only improve.
Complete 5 rounds for time of:
**100 Single Jump-rope(100/100/100/100/100)
40 Squats(40/40/40/40/40)
30 Sit-ups(30/30/30/30/30)
20-Push-ups (15,5/15,5/15,5/15,5/15,5)
10 Pull-ups (10/10/10/10/10)
TOTAL TIME=30:21
Ave HR= 133b/m
**Knees a wash from the Sunday run, substituted the lower impact jump-rope for the jump-touches
I with you. Mid-way of the third round of jumps I was stumbling around like I was drunk.
Finished in 37:20.
Did negatives on the pull-ups.
32:50
Jump target about 16." Did most of the jumps in 10s and 5s (more 5s than 10s!); had some breakdowns in the squats but not in the others.
Ugh. One full round, four half-rounds (25, 20, 15, 10, 5): 44:45. But on the plus side, my neighbors think I'm I goon now since I hung the weight from my tree.
1:00:37. I knew this one was going to hurt. I spent a WHOLE lot of time trying not to puke. A couple times walking up the carpet to the drinking fountain I was thinking: "I hope I don't puke here; they'll finally throw me out", which was followed immediatately by "But what a great reason to get thrown out." In any event, I avoided Pukie. I didn't measure the distance, but it was in the 16-20" range. I was aiming for the ceiling. I hit it about 40% of the time, was very close (1") about 40% of the time, and was closer than my vermouth is to my martini glass about 20% of the time. I made all but one of the pullup sets in one set, which I found encouraging. Push-ups too, of course.
One other thing: for anyone who cares, I did make my 500 pullups on Saturday. I did 5 reps every 5 minutes for like 7 hours. It was all day, whatever the math is. I prepared my taxes, and read.
Barry - great job! I wish I had a pull-up bar in my house I would have joined you in your challenge? Did anyone else who volunteered accomplish this feat?
As for today's WOD I humbly submit my time of 34:07. After a WOD like this may I suggest to you Coach a line of Crossfit shirts made of Dryfit fabric? My newly purchased cotton Crossfit shirt was soaked!
27 min. 12 sec. Legs sore from my long mountain run the day before. Countdown to the Whiskey Row Marathon begins... any Crossfitters up to the challenge?
i enjoyed this workout. thanks.
OW. That one hurt good! I love it.
26 min on the wall clock.
Sean, is the Whiskey Row Marathon a running or rowing Marathon? I will row it with you, but don't like running enough to run a whole 20-some miles :)
Raj
Good workout! My calves are trembling nicely!

Barry,
Great going! I've read and been impressed by all your posts since I discovered this website, about October last year. Awesome job on the 500 pullups! Are they unassisted? How many per set, ballpark?
BTW, I always ready YOUR posts.
Barry,
Outstanding job on the pullups. Due to unexpected farm incidents and guests, I only had time for 453 Saturday. But believe me I knew exactly how sore my lats were during every step of that 10k the following day and straightening my arms after that run was a lesson in bicep/forearm agony. That was a fun challenge.
Did it in 36.20. Jumps were killer, but did the 18 inches tiptoe reach.
Great WOD, if not a little painful. I would tell you my HR, but I should be dead! I felt surprisingly good and I can only put it down to cheating on the jumps. I had no method of measuring 18''+ in the gym so I guestimated 18'' as a point on the wall, and it was probably more like 12 - 15''. I'll take a ruler and check tomorrow. Anyway I completed 5 rounds in 21:17.
Thanks, all!! Quite honestly, I'm amazed as always at everyone's times on this WOD. Since I'm 225-230, depending on the week and my behavior, bodyweight stuff just wipes me out. The heavy stuff I like.
Steve, they were unassisted. They started really hurting about 350 reps in. I started wincing every time my timer went off, but managed to keep my mind empty (not actually a major feat!). I kept a golf stroke counter next to my pullup bar, and used a 5 minute count-down timer. I did 5 per set, except for the WOD, during which I did 41 total in various reps per set.
Kelly, I think anyone but you would have bagged the workout completely. You're one tough lady!!
Did this one a day late. I had to sub 100 left legged singles with the jump rope in place of the jump and touches. Based on what you people are posting, I missed a killer of an exercise. Used ab-mat for situps and rings for push-ups. Time was 18:48.
Yup, that's Eichorn Pinnacle; I'm on the "tourist route" up Cathedral Peak. That's one of the Cathedral Lakes in the background (photo taken from Cathedral Peak looking west).
I've been ill and travelling ... back to the WOD tomorrow :-)
Managed three sets before the cramps brought me to a screeching halt...so much for after dinner wod's...of course three rounds in 23:15 is nothing to be happy with...anxious to see how Gwen treats me tomorrow
45 minutes. Glad to hear the jumping killed others too.
Great Workout....I had to break the jumps up into 10's and they were probably only 12 inches. Everything else was smooth.....I also broke up the pullups into 2 sets of 5 (but I made them weighted pullups with an extra 10 lbs. Total Time approx 29 min.
Man, I was thinking what a stud I was at 26:30 . . . until I re-read the WOD and realized it was supposed to go FIVE rounds.
26:30 was for three rounds. (I think I'll go bury myself in shame, now).
Jumps were probably 12-15 inches average. If we only counted the ones that were a true 18 inches, I'd still be doing them.
You people doing 5 rounds in under 30 minutes are mind-boggling . . .
Did WOD 2 i hour after light dinner...big mistake. Pukie was in my face after 3 rounds (22 min.) jumps were consistent height, but breathing was very challenging. You all are animals. I was done after 3. feeling better each WOD. mental toughness is improving. i'm hooked.
P.S. congrats on meeting your challenge Barry.
I was done after 3 rounds too; this one was a killer. I had notice after starting Thai boxing that I lacked strength in my legs and, boy, did I pay dearly for it on this one.
this my 1st post and I have been doing crossfit solid for 5-6 weeks and that coupled with my"Atkins" based diet I have lost 20 lbs. is 5 weeks and my levels in all 10 physical skill as increased by leaps and bounds. I still can do many WOD's word for word yet butit is coming around and this one was Great\painfull. Thanks Coach for this system and the great workouts and the people that are on board. Thanks
I am a a few days behind the schedule , but this was the best leg workout ever. 28.00
Thanks
Man that was AWSOME!
The jump + Touch was the heat!
Time 27:25 for 5 rounds.
