Coach what is the difference between a hang clean and a power clean?

Charles,
I'm certainly not Coach, but as I understand it, the hang clean starts with the bar just above the knees; the power clean starts at the floor and there is only a knee dip at the catch rather than a full squat.

I stand by to be corrected.

22:24 7 rounds of 115# power clean and 35 situps

Comment #3 - Posted by: KevinA at March 2, 2004 4:22 AM

24:46 - Seven rounds: 95# squat cleans x 7 reps, glute-ham situps x 35

I altered this WOD to continue moving toward my goal of bodyweight squat cleans. All reps but one were full depth (had to redo that one). I could definitely feel how much my abs are used to stabilize cleans after the situps. Tough, gratifying workout.

Interesting when I review past WODs and realize I'm doing reps with a weight for full cleans that I couldn't touch for one rep months ago.

Sit-ups done Roman Chair style.

Form started to come unglued a bit on sets 6 and 7 between 12 and 15 reps.

Comment #6 - Posted by: Matt G. at March 2, 2004 8:40 AM

25:00 Roman chair sit-ups. Nursing an injury in my forearm that won't seem to heal.

27:19.6
Broken sets last 4 rounds: 10-5. Grip limiting factor.

Comment #8 - Posted by: steve h at March 2, 2004 10:54 AM

31:30 95#

I was aiming for 30 minutes, but just couldn't go any faster. I m happy though, 95# is more than I've ever done before. I am going to be a mess tomorrow.

Comment #9 - Posted by: ALeX at March 2, 2004 10:59 AM

27:50 using 75# (all I own).

Situps were the time killer, still recovering from the respiratory illness, but much better than a few days ago.

Felt great to push some weight around.

7 rounds for time of:
70-pound Power clean x 15 reps
35 Sit-ups
TIME= 24:17
(used lighter weight to improve form and make all 15 reps in each set w/o a break)

Comment #11 - Posted by: jdg at March 2, 2004 12:23 PM

Finished in 18:00 flat, tried to make myself push the whole time. Broke the Cleans up by 5's after the 2nd round.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Mike F BJJ at March 2, 2004 1:19 PM

Used 1.5 pood kb for cleans.
30 reps (15 left, 15 right) X 7 rounds
35 situps (feet anchored)
Time= 27:34
Glad to have a rest day for tommorow!

Tried to remember my form from high school football. I used to live my life by power cleans. Did glute-hams for the SU.

26:29
7 rounds
135# squat clean from the hang x 10 reps
35 sit ups military style

Tried to focus on form but fatigue got me. After the first three rounds the cleans were in two sets (5 reps each) and sit ups in two sets (20 reps & 15 reps).

Comment #16 - Posted by: Gunnar Bozeman at March 2, 2004 3:23 PM

65#, 42 minutes. But hey, I finished.

Comment #17 - Posted by: mark at March 2, 2004 4:24 PM

29:40 115 lbs and plain old situps,35 for 7 rounds. Am I the only one a little upper back weary from yesterdays couplet?

Comment #18 - Posted by: Ed Velasco at March 2, 2004 4:39 PM

Alternated between 80 and 100 lbs. for cleans for a total time of 22.39 min. The situps were completed in standard form, what ever that is...

Still a day behind. My surgeon has prohibited dips, therefore no muscleups. Limited to pullups, so did L pullups for 20 minutes, got to 154. Kelly, I did a post at the end of the Sunday comments with a note for you. I hope you find it.

Comment #20 - Posted by: adam at March 2, 2004 4:54 PM

This gave me that great lung burn!

Time: 29:46 under 30 minutes!
Did Cleans with 75lbs, still new to the lift.
Broke all but the first set into 10/5.
Did 35 straight for all situps, mixed in 60% Glute Ham situps, some lady trainer and her client kept jacking the machine.
The last time I tried to go for it some meat head hopped on it really quick, between his sets of Smith Machine Half Squats. He came fully equipped with the lifting belt and wraps for his knees. I just kept quiet.
Great wod, but looking foward to rest day.
P.S. My upper body is burnt from the Pullup/Dip marathon!

115 Lbs., broken sets on last 4 sets 10/5.

Funny to see at a club where there are over 300 people working out (Lifetime Fitness), I have the Olympic weights all to myself!

First round 85#; last 6 at 95#. Ball situps for a change of pain...er...pace. Broke all sets of power cleans.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at March 2, 2004 6:40 PM

28:43 was time today. A little slow but I have good reason...I went to a 50th B-Day party of a friend and drank at least 10 beers in about 2 hours, I lost count after 10. I managed to do the first two rounds in under 3 min. Next time, without the Beer-Factor in place, my time will probably be reduced considerably.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Tony at March 2, 2004 7:10 PM

27:30 Plenty of strength but not much speed or endurance. Continued attention to the WOTD should fix that.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Brian M. at March 2, 2004 7:19 PM

27:16 - a little bit of hell in this workout. 7 rounds is a long time...

Comment #26 - Posted by: chad stclair at March 2, 2004 8:34 PM

~80% modifications-

7 rds for time of:
93# power-clean x 15
28 sit-ups (Air Force style)

***
Completed 3 rds @ time = 13m05s

Was intending to do 7 rds until ripped callus from yesterday's WOD could handle no more. So finished 3 rds and called it a day.

Comment #27 - Posted by: Q at March 2, 2004 9:33 PM

Still a day behind. 7 (broken) sets, 95#, 35 situps from the floor. 36:35, slower than slow. These routines -- squats, L pullups, etc. -- really tax my trunk muscles.

Comment #28 - Posted by: adam at March 3, 2004 6:47 AM

28:02

Just missed under 28:00. Almost caught you StClair. Those were some of the ugliest power cleans I've ever done...elbows down, falling forward on the catch, brutal. Gonna have a nice callus on my right thumb

Comment #29 - Posted by: Jon Pappas at March 3, 2004 1:58 PM

34 minutes
115# first two sets
95# last five sets
Sweated like a work mule.

Comment #30 - Posted by: Charles Austin at March 3, 2004 3:24 PM

Used just the 45# bar for the power cleans (scaling intensity in accordance with my kneeds). and toes to bar for the sit-ups (which after round 2 were done mostly 5-10-10-10). Time was 34:50.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Ryan at March 3, 2004 5:29 PM

7 rounds:
40kg power cleans
35 bench sit-ups
36:36

Comment #32 - Posted by: Joseph at March 3, 2004 8:53 PM

23:46 115# Power cleans/35 rep situps.

P.M. Run
