MIG welding rocks! Like using a hot glue gun, but leaving a trail of steel... get an auto-darkening helmet.

I did thursdays work out on wednesday. I did 3 rounds + 3 pull ups in 20 min. Pretty weak but in time homefully I will improve.

9:45. 1st 2 rounds without pause and then 1 break in each exercise and a mini pause between.Tough workout but not as hard as Sunday's rope climb-pullup torture. Removing the possibility of failing and falling from the rope lessens the anxiety.I continue to be surprised at how cardio-respiratory challenging these upper body-body weight complexes can be.

All 20 pullups/30 pushups the first round, breakdowns on both all four remaining sets. Judging from my soreness, quickly tiring grip and general fatigue, yesterday's WOD took it's toll. Good workout.

Great time Ed!

12:45, with all broken sets in later rounds. Ed's time really sparkles. Kelly, many thanks for your kind words yesterday: so far as I'm concerned, your amazing determination and grit are already more than equal to anything I could hope for. But it is interesting to see how old one can be and still improve. I would guess you will improve into your 80s. Clearly Ed aims to be the world's fittest 60-year old, and he has a real chance.
What is remarkable about Crossfit is that it spurs us to improvement far above what other programs even aim for. Everyone else tells me this is a time of life to slack off; Crossfit just says, Do it. And it works.

Traps are so sore from yesterday! Collar Bone is so tender even my shirt hurts it, but you know I like it.

26:46. My time is sad, but it will improve over time. Had a couple of beers last night and I think that was part of the cause. Just had one of those non motivated days. You guys are amazing keep up the good work and I'll catch you soon.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Todd at January 29, 2004 9:11 AM

53:25 Very humbling. At least I have lots of room for improvement. I had to use the gravitron for the pullups. The #'s are the counterbalance. I weigh 181#.
Pullups: 40# 6-3-2-2-2-2-2-1, 70# 4-4-4-3-2-2-1, 100# 6-5-6-3, 100# 4-4-4-4-4, 100# 5-4-4-3-2-2
Pushups: 20-10, 10-10-10, 10-10-8-2, 10-7-5-4-4, 8-7-5-5-4-1
I don't know how you guys did Barbara. Well, I guess it would give me more rest for the pullups.

The pullups kill me!!
R1-R4 10 pullups (broken); 30 pushups 1 set
R5 5 single pullups; 30(15,10,5) pushups

Comment #10 - Posted by: Treetrunks at January 29, 2004 10:14 AM

23:00 This is my first real WOD. I've been working on the pull-ups which I have always been weak at. Did 10 on the first round and 30 pushups. Didn't get the pushups on the remaining rounds. Got a long way to go.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Kevin A at January 29, 2004 11:21 AM

Yes a tough one.I think fatigue from yesterday affected me.All 30 push ups in each round(we call then press ups in the UK!)Bt I had to break down the pull ups into a ladder to avoid total failure.I did 1 2 3 4 5 and then a 5 again.

Did all pullups in sets of 2's, about 10-15 seconds apart, no negatives or assists.
Did pushups...
(10,10,10), (10,10,10), (20,6,4), (20,6,4), (20,4,4,2)

I am truely amazed at anytimes under 20 minutes! The pullups are always my nemesis, but I am improving in them. Used my homemade parallets with my feet raised for the pushups which was fun. If Ed is 60 years old, at least I have 25 years to catch up to his olympian times!

Pullups: 9+11 negatives, 5+2+13 negatives,4+16 negatives, 3+17 negatives, 3+17 negatives

Pushups: Round 1: 20,5,5 Round 2: 15,5,5,4,1 Round 3: 10,5,5,5,5 Round 4: 11,5,3,6,5 Round 5: 10,5,4,2,2,2,2,2,1

Whew, as I type this I feel really lame, but it was a great workout:)

Pull-ups in sets 2-5 were broken.
All push-ups were straight through.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Ethan at January 29, 2004 3:54 PM

Did a variation on todays workout

10 rds
5 pullups
10 pushups

5 rounds
2-pood snatches (5 each arm)
200 m sprints

squat thrusts and more pullups to finish.

around 23 minutes

I can bang out 20 pullups in the first round no problem and then as soon as I hit the second round I struggle for 5. Oh well, sub 10:00 is in my future.

at a bodyweight of #225 my pullups still need a lot of work the first two sets went like this 10-5-5 then 5-4-2-2-2-2-2-1. after that i headed to the gravitron and did set 3 with it set at #60 for 8-6-6. set 4 & 5 was 7-5-5-4.

i swapped benchpress with #155 for pushups. i went 15-15 on the first 3 sets and then 10-10-10 on the last two.

Comment #18 - Posted by: jerme at January 29, 2004 4:26 PM

43:15. Man, was that miserable.

Pullups all in pairs (good idea, Mike!) except that the middle two sets each broke down to singles once (that is, 2...-1-1-2 ...). No assist, no negatives (a first!) ... much kipping. Pushups 10-10-5-5. Much, much muscle failure.

I can really feel yesterday's glute-ham sits in my "pooch" today.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Chris K at January 29, 2004 6:01 PM

Ed,
Great time man.

My goal was to get under 10 min. I got 12:05. A LITTLE OFF! There's always next time. Lots of little breakdowns after the first round.

Some great times posted here. Good work all. If ever one wanted to take a picture of ones' arms, after this workout would have been the time to do it!

It is what Pappas and I call the Gorilla Effect. The next day is followed by Crossfit Jaw, where one's face muscles hurt at the jaw hinge from excessive panting, blowing and grunting, sometimes even puking. Come on..you all know what I am talking about.

Hey guys I'm very sad with my work out,but at least I'm trying.
After been 5 days totally trying to rebuild my wood floor I did the work out of the day.
My time wasn't that good,I did in 32 minutes. My last two round wwas pretty weak and I could not finish the last rond of pull up's.I did 17 instead of 20.
I hope be better tomorrow.

I was excited to make come in under 40:00

Comment #23 - Posted by: Laurion at January 30, 2004 12:56 AM

I had to get in & out in record time due to a meeting, so I did the following:

--1st set unbroken

--sets 2-3 pullups in sets of 5 & pushups in sets of 15

--set 4, pullup station was in use so I did an unbroken assisted pull-up set with 50% bodyweight assistance, pushups 2 x 15

--set 5, 4 sets of 5 jumping pullups, pushups 2x15

Total time: 16:14. Had I done real pullups for all sets it would have taken at least 10 minutes longer, I'd guess, probably more.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Jay Swan at January 30, 2004 7:54 AM

You people are absolute animals!
41:05
Pullups done in 3,3,4,4,3,3 broken sets. I had to break the last set of pushups in half. I have never done 100 pullups in a day. This is getting cool!

First round unbroken; everything else broken. 15/5 and 20/10 on round 2 and it was downhill from there. I had fantasies of 10 minutes, but they were quickly shattered.

wt. 235#
70# assist on pullups

Comment #27 - Posted by: doug at January 30, 2004 4:52 PM

Did this on Friday, 30Jan04.

70% modifications-
5 rds for time of:
14 pull-ups
21 push-ups

***
time = 14:54

Did 8 strict pull-ups before resorting to 2 half pull-ups = 1 pull-up. 2nd round through 5th round, did all negatives. Push-ups were not a problem, though some of the sets were broken. Pull-ups are still my weakest link. I need to figure some way to get them to decent numbers (at least 12 unbroken).

The pull-ups felt tougher than they have in a long time. They always kick my ass, but today was worse. Had to break up all push-up sets. On the last set I was doing 3's at the end, ugh! Weak! I respect those people who took over 30 min. and sometiems 40 to complete this workout. You gotta be a "grinder."

45:56 Holy smokes! This one was tough.

Jesus. I can't even type. That was deceptively difficult. I'd be lying if I said I maintained the 20/30 sets. Major breakdowns. Welcome to CrossFit I guess.
-D.
