Practice: Handstand Against Wall

Flirt with balance point by pushing heels against wall gently causing the handstand to "float out" then drift back to wall repeatedly. Keep body tight.

5 times through. Didn't anyone else do this one?

It's not monday yet!

Finally, a WOD where the pullups were the easy part! I knew benching 135# for sets of 12 was going to be a bear. After the first round, I figured the only way I was going to be able to hang on was to push up 2, pet the cats sharing the bench with me and repeat to the prescribed 12...I was hoping for 5 rounds, but managed 4 with just seconds to spare.

I can't wait for the thrusters tomorrow...

I used 67.5 lb dumbbells instead of a BB and managed 6 rounds. The last set I did have to break up.

Kelly, I didn't stop to pet cats between reps .... but I did have to dodge our very hungry and very insistent cat as I moved between the bench and the pull up bar. :-)

I did the workout this morning and completed 8-1/2 rounds. Breezed through the Bench Press, but the Pull-ups really slowed me down.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Marlon Thompson at September 15, 2003 7:57 AM

I got 7-1/2 rounds (+1 pull-up). Like Marlon, the benches were fairly easy for me (broke up sets 6 & 7, however). Pull-ups, per usual, gave me more trouble - eventually broke down to sets of one at the end.

finally the right day. Seven rounds, but cheated on weight; only 120. Can anyone suggest why pullups are so much easier for me than bench presses?

Comment #7 - Posted by: adam w at September 15, 2003 8:40 AM

5 rounds- No problem with the bench, but like several other comments the pull-ups slowed me way down.

5 1/2 rounds. Easy benching very hard pull-ups. Used to doing chin-ups so taking my biceps out of the equation really hurt me.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Paul at September 15, 2003 12:42 PM

I came out of the gate way too fast on this one. Sometimes I swear I must think I am still 19.

I did 6 1/2 in the first 12 minutes, then I paused for a commercial break with pukie, came back and heckled and cajoled myself into doing another 2.

So 8 1/2 total.
I think I cheated though, I alternated my pull up grip between pull, chin, and nuetral.
Oh well, at least I can look forward to tomorrow. Or not.
Everyday is the same, "Hey, this WOD doesn't look to bad." Halfway through, reality sets in. I think Coach's second job is designing tortures for purgatory.

body weight 144; 7 1/2 rounds. pullups were easy, but had to break the bench sets into 8 and 4 the last 3 rounds.

Comment #11 - Posted by: ed at September 15, 2003 3:53 PM

Did 8.5 rounds. I was only able to do 3 pull ups on the 8th round.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Tony at September 15, 2003 4:31 PM

8 full rounds. I did breakdowns on the pullups (6, rest, then 6). I was getting ready to go for 1 more round, and got a phone call.Pullups are a strong point for me.The bench was easy. I was tempted to mix chins in there too, but I didn't .

8 rounds also. Bench killed me.

First WOD.

Pullups hurt, but not as bad as benching my body weight. Completed 6 rounds of 12 dead hang.

Did 4 rounds right. Then took 20 pounds off and did another two.

5 1/2. My first ever WOD, and my first serious workout in 5 weeks. Pullups hurt. Bench hurt.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Bubba at September 16, 2003 6:37 AM

Hey Frank,

With regards to your switching grips on the pull-ups, I did the same thing. I don't think it's cheating - it's improvising, overcoming, adapting :-)

Ryan,
I placate myself with the theory that I am following the spirit of the WOD. I am actually looking forward to today, It is two of my strongest events.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Frank Ollis at September 16, 2003 8:14 AM

4 3/4 rounds.

Was within 3 pull-ups of getting 5th round. Damn! The pull-ups were easier for me, but the bench is my nemesis because of my long arms.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Jon at September 16, 2003 12:13 PM

made it 9 rounds, I'm a day behind on the WODs. I alternated my grip on the pull-up to keep it moving.

Monday was my first day, I decided to try it. My workouts usually last 1 to 2 hours. I was in a hurry and decided 20minutes is all I had today so let’s do something easy. My warm-up weight for bench is 155lbs so I thought 135lbs was going to be a breeze. On the 3rd set I was struggling, needed a spot for the 4th set and on. Ended with 5 and ½ (6 sets of bench/w help and 5sets of pull-ups). It was hard to stay focused at the end of the 4th set and everything I could do not to quit before the time was up. Lot’s of respect here.

6 1/2. Pull-ups bad. Bench good.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Barry Cooper at September 17, 2003 3:11 PM

BWT 110#
5 1/2 rounds: got the first one straight for both exercises; broke up the bench on subsequent sets. Pullups ok until last set, which was the "variety grip" set!

Comment #23 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at September 18, 2003 6:17 PM

7 rounds
Broke up all sets of both exercises. Generally took a few breaths pause (<10 seconds) between groups of 2 to 6 reps for both exercises.
