"I am a 41-year-old mother of two. I have always been fairly 'small', never overweight but certainly not fit. I was never an athlete in school and never liked to run at all. A few years ago, I decided I wanted to start working out as an example to my kids and for myself. I began by working out in my garage. I still remember crying in the beginning because I would get so sore and felt like I would never get there ... A friend had told me about CrossFit. I will be honest, I was absolutely intimidated by it ... In my mind you had to be an athlete your whole life to even think about doing CrossFit, And then there was the age factor .. the only people I knew who did it were in their late teens and early twenties. I am in my 40's and did not want to walk in looking like a joke.

Finally, I convinced myself to 'just try' it ... I never heard anything negative and was encouraged every day. Here I am, 7 months later feeling the best I have ever felt. I am in the best shape of my life and I want to tell people everyday how great CrossFit is for your mind and body. I especially want to share my story to inspire anyone my age who is intimidated like I was. If I can do it, they can do it. I am continuing to set goals for myself and strive for the next level. My goal is to inspire, not impress ... I also want to show that CrossFit does not make a woman look less feminine or too 'bulky.'" -- Candy Rice

Thank you for providing such a relatable story to go with the photo.

While CF can help some people to overcome huge barriers in their lives, I think that the overwhelming majority of the good that CF can accomplish lies in its ability to make perhaps less dramatic but still very meaningful positive changes in the lives of hundreds of millions of people worldwide who could truly benefit from it.

Thank you for sharing your story!

Keep up the great work and keep inspiring! You are an inspiration to many women out there who were scared at first to try CrossFit (I was one of them). It has changed my life for the better in every way.

Great job!

I started CrossFit 8 months ago and I turn 43 in a couple of weeks. I was a zumba girl lol. Not anymore! CrossFit is making me physically strong and mentally stronger which I need for raising two little boys on my own. CrossFit does not bulk you up ladies! I went from a muffin top size 8 to a size 2/4 in a couple of months. Not only do you gain fitness, you gain an entire community you will call family.

Thank you for sharing your story! I agree with Dane's assessment about meaningful, positive changes. I was never really intimidated, mostly because I had hit rock bottom and had no where to go but up. I was 51 when I started, and at 5'5", weighed over 200 lbs. I love CrossFit and hope to do it for the rest of my life. I also hope to be able to train women like me someday!

Great story! I love the last line: " I also want to show that CrossFit does not make a woman look less feminine or too 'bulky.'"

Since starting CrossFit a year and three months ago, my entire perception of what I consider 'attractive', 'feminine', 'masculine' etc in a man and a woman has totally changed thanks to CrossFit.

I remember taking a few onramp classes with you at centex, Candy. Even though you're not trying to impress anyone, you definitely are! I 100% agree with your statement about centex being one of the very best boxes around, also. Keep up the great work and never settle!! God bless.

I am 48 turning 49 in October. I am in the middle of my 7th month of Crossfit. I have lost 25lbs and become smaller then I can ever remember. It is really the most effective and efficient fitness program I have ever done. I was always a jock, had a lot of muscle mass and was previously a team athlete. I have found my team at my box and Crossfit has carved out the muscle again for me. It has been instrumental in an overall shift in my diet and complete state of health.
