CrossFit JAX (Chris Russell) steps into the CrossFit Affiliate Snapshot.

Affiliate Since: Oct 2007.
Location: Atlantic Beach, FL, USA.
Square Footage: 1720.
Number of Members: 66.
How many times have you moved your affiliate location: 0.
Number of Trainers: Two L2's, six L1's.
Greatest joy as a CrossFit affiliate: Impacting others' lives in every aspect and being a positive role-model for them.

Read on! There's more . . .

Biggest worry as a CrossFit affiliate: Affiliates not upholding the standards.
Do you Facebook? Or Twitter? Both.
Do you blog daily? Yes.
If you had Coach Greg Glassman's ear, what would you ask him? Would you want CF to be a professional sport one day?
If you could give new CrossFit affiliates one piece of advice, what would it be? Care about every single one of your members and do anything & everything to better yourself as a coach.
Complete the sentence: CrossFit is . . . my religion.
Biggest lesson you've learned as a small business owner: Admin/Office-managing side of the house sucks! Learn how to manage memberships, pay your taxes (ON TIME) and don't put off what you can do now for later because you'll forget and the next thing you know, you're in over your head. BUILD A COMMUNITY! If there are other affiliates in the area, work with them to spread CrossFit to as much people as possible. There's a reason why we're all called "'affiliates." Learn how to program correctly. This is a trial & error process, but be smart about it. Program for your members' strengths with the intent and focus on exposing their weaknesses. If you have a quality product, people will find you. Get creative and don't fall into the trap of doing things the way others are doing it; what works for them might not work for you. Find your own way and method and bend the rules. Set yourself apart from the rest and most importantly - HAVE FUN!
Using 3 words or less, describe your affiliate culture: Heavy, Dirty & Gritty.
Gym dog? Or no gym dog? We had a gym dog until my partner re-located; Neech was the doberman and our coach/trainer in the Transformers video that HQ posted online a couple of years ago. Sadly we no longer have a mascot, but we're taking applications!

Um, this looks sketchy- not sure where to "turn this is" but doesn't look like a legitimate affiliate: http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/spa/1656430015.html

CFJax!

A great place to spend your vacations! Great bunch of "Go Getter's"!

Very intelligent trainers that are constantly working on perfection.

They were very helpful with their insights and ideas for opening up a box.

Cfjax has changed my life both mentally and physically and everyday I am grateful to my cfjax family. Thank you goes out to Chris, Meghan and the rest of the staff that have pushed me to the next level.

Knowing Chris from back in the FWB days it's awesome to see him achieve so much and become the elite athlete that he is today. He is the reason I started crossfit and it has since changed my life in so many ways. Looking forward to the day I can drop in at CFJax and workout with Chris and CFJax members.

CFJAX in one word - Amazing.

Great coaches and an awesome group of people, whose work-ethic, drive and kick-ass mentality make you want to do better every rep of every set of every session of every week.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Manoj at April 7, 2010 6:40 AM

WOOHOO CFJAX! We can never say enough about Meghan and Chris they are just that awesome! I always have one or the other on my butt about pushing harder, if not both of them at the same time and I wouldn't have it any other way. Everyone in the box pushes each other to beat PR's and to go hard every time we do a WOD. CFJax family is the best around!!

Comment #6 - Posted by: Laurie at April 7, 2010 7:52 AM

CfJax has completely changed the way I live my life! It has taught me balance and has pushed me far beyond what I ever thought I was capable of! Many thanks to Chris, Meghan and all of the incredible task masters at CFJax!

Comment #7 - Posted by: Pam at April 7, 2010 7:52 AM

My life has changed for the postive since becoming a part of CFJax. The support we receive as memebers of CFJax from Chris, Meghan and the other trainers is top knotch.

Comment #8 - Posted by: Travis at April 7, 2010 8:51 AM

Chris and his wife Meghan are doing great things over there. Creating some real firebreathers. If you ever get a chance to chill and talk with them, DO IT. They rock. Congrats guys!

Comment #9 - Posted by: Chris Holt at April 7, 2010 9:08 AM

Not only is Chris an amazing coach and athlete himself, he is also sexy as hell...

We started in a brick building that was anything but cookie cutter... I love the feel of Jax. Like it's right next door to a gulag or something. Feels hard core.

Comment #10 - Posted by: john brown at April 7, 2010 9:56 AM

CFJAX is the BEST affiliate I have visited outside of Michigan! They have a great group of people working out there... a small family.
They're programming is amazing! Meghan and Chris are so welcoming and helpful - they definitely know their stuff... their trainers followed suit - especially Jon! ;)
CrossFit Ladies... if you're in the area - you should definitely stop in there because CFJAX has some firebreather "eye-candy"! LOL!

i have been considering bolstering revenue at my box with supplements lately. Anyone have any good experience with Physician's blend HGH? Or any supplements (other than the obvious paleo treats etc.) that dovetail nicely with our philosophy?

Rock on!

Comment #12 - Posted by: Todd Ovall at April 7, 2010 12:36 PM

My wife asks me why would I drive 22 miles to do a workout that may only last less than 15 minutes. The answer is not so simple to explain.
CFJAX should me made into a movie. Somewhere between FIGHTCLUB and TRUE ROMANCE.

Comment #13 - Posted by: (!) at April 7, 2010 2:44 PM

CFJAX is the kind of no-nonsense, get your hands dirty, accept no excuses box that makes CrossFit so great. The programming is stellar, the coaches are awesome and the atmosphere is unmatched. I highly encourage CFer's of all levels to drop in and experience what we have in north Florida.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Cav at April 7, 2010 3:07 PM

CFJAX has changed my whole perspective on what it is to be healthy and fit. I can thank Chris and Meghan enough for what they do.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Dustin at April 7, 2010 4:50 PM

CFJAX is a special affiliate. I was a wandering CrossFitter before I found their box. They showed me what a real community felt like, and set the bar high.

When I decided to open my own affiliate in Jacksonville, they were supportive from the first time I nervously mentioned it. They lent their time, equipment, and support as friends as I struggled through the early months.

CFJAX is what I consider a complete package.
The programming is solid.
The coaching is solid.
The intensity is solid.
The athletes are solid.
The community is solid.

Zero compromises, true to their roots, built to last...the list goes on. More importantly, they are not in it for the limelight, the quick buck or the pride factor.

They do it because it's the right way to do things. That's it.

Much love to Meghan, Chris and the entire CFJAX crew (past and present). I would not be where I am without you...but as you can tell on this post, I'm not alone.

CF JAX is not for everybody. you have to have your mind right to hack it. if you do, and you can fight through, you will be able to experience the power of the groups energy. there is no lack of energy at any time here. CF JAX is like a team. shared commitment, suffering and results. some of the nicest people anywhere.

Comment #18 - Posted by: harry at April 7, 2010 6:44 PM

I cannot put into words what this box and it's owners have done to transform my life. As Chris and Meghan will tell you, "you did all the work", they still deserve most of the credit for their always interesting programming that never allows you to become complacent and their relentless standards on ROM and intensity. They have welcomed me into their small but powerful family, as they do for all of their members, and for this I will be forever grateful.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Steve at April 7, 2010 7:08 PM

I couldn't say enough about CFJAX! Its completely changed my life, my health, and the way I think about training. Chris & Meghan are such a great team, as are all the trainers. I love that every work out feels like an "event". The chemistry is awesome, very welcoming & friendly, all while pushing you to do things you didn't you know you could. I almost feel a little sad when I miss a wod!

Kona would be more than happy to be a gym dog!

chris and i thank all of you for the kind words. this experience has been, since day one, some of the hardest, greatest, most challenging, and fun filled days of our relationship and our lives. this tiny hole in the ghetto of atlantic beach florida holds within its walls (and has always held) some of the most mentally tough and spiritually strong athletes you will ever find. for me personally, CrossFit and CrossFit JAX have changed my LIFE in ways i can and cannot put into words. as always, a huge part of what we are began with the philosophies and mental toughness of mike solis (324). we would not be what we are today were it not for him, and for that we are forever grateful. as for our members, chris and i are beyond thrilled to have such incredible people to work with every day. at our box, you do not find cookie cutter WOD's and NOTHING is easy. these people, you people, come every day ready to bring the pain, take the pain, and walk away demolished, destroyed, FUBARd, and yet you still continue to show. changing your lives has changed our lives. our coffee talk and our pillow talk are infested with ideas for WODs, member recognition, our endless pursuit of maturing CFJAX and our legacies, and the list goes on and on. if we don't tell you enough, YOU ARE. if we don't show you enough, YOU ARE. you are the ones who make all of this possible. you are the ones we live to see, coach, push, pull, and love.

from the bottom of our squats
from our beautiful babies
with all the love and respect in the world
our very best,

meghan & chris russell

What is there to say that hasn't already been said?? Cfjax is unlike anything I've ever done in my life. I've had a life-long struggle with my health, fitness, weight.. and definitely got to the point where I felt like I would never be able to make the changes I needed to. But then my sister and her husband introduced me to crossfit...and I haven't looked back since. I don't know if I ever would have tried this had it not been for Meghan and Chris. The two of them, along with the entire staff of trainers, push me to do my best each and every day, and I can't thank them enough. And it's absolutely true what everyone has said about cfjax being a small family. What an awesome community of people! I'm so grateful and privileged to be a part it. Like others said above...if anyone has the opportunity to stop by cfjax...DO IT. It will kick your ass and you'll love every minute of it.

Just want to thank Chris and the whole CFJax crew for always making me feel part of the fam. when we get together. Love the WODs and love the coaching. As a coach myself, they are the kind you want to learn from. Thank you again.

CrossFitJax. Coach Glassman told me
"What you do with the trust I give you defines YOU." Not me. The chance I take with you is on you." he had a way of looking at you over a weekend and seeing the future; he would look at us ( Staff ) and if he saw that special something he would say .."They get it".

CrossfitJax, They get it.

CrossfitJax.."They get it".

Comment #25 - Posted by: tj at April 8, 2010 7:56 PM

I wasn't sure about the gym that I couldn't find at first because it looks like a warehouse in the ghetto. However, I very quickly discovered that it's the people that make it the amazing place that it is; it's a small family of dedicated and hard core people who are always willing to help. I had been on a crew team for years and really missed that aspect of working out when I got to Jacksonville-well CrossfitJax filled that gap.

Anyway, point being-it's awesome.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Beth-Ann at April 15, 2010 6:00 AM

A little difficult to find but worth the trip. I did my first snatch during my visit. For a trainer to walk you through one of the most difficult Oly lifts in one session says a lot about the quality of trainers.

Great bunch of people. Will definitely visit again when I am in the area.
