How many times have you moved your affiliate location? Never. But we are busting at the seams. Occasionally we are caught drooling over our neighbor's bay. We stay up at night plotting our takeover.
Greatest joy as a CrossFit affiliate: Two great moments: Instead of a "Grand Opening Party" we decided to host a FGB Fundraiser, "Miracle in 3 Rounds" for The Milagro Center --a charity program for disadvantaged kids in our community. We introduced over 200 strangers to CrossFit AND raised over $22K for the kids! We are planning our 2nd Annual event now for May 8th, 2010!
Our second greatest moment was when our team placed FIRST in the Affiliate Challenge at the "Dirty South" Regional Qualifiers last year in Jacksonville, FL. We still have the "tiki" trophy sitting proudly at our front door - we are heading back to defend our title this year! And in breaking news, we just had 10 athletes compete in the Florida Sectionals: 3 of whom made it through to Regionals! "We May Be Green...But We're Growing Like Weeds!"
Keep reading! There's more!
Biggest worry as a CrossFit affiliate: Overcrowding and thieves trying to steal our TV. Again.
Do you Facebook? Yes. It's an awesome social networking tool.
Do you Twitter? YES! Love Twitter. We roll as "CFDRB". Our members seem to really be getting into tweeting - all day long! We post our Daily WOD's , shout out PR's and HOUSE RECORDS being broken (as they happen), and poll for nickname ideas / t shirt slogans / social outings / etc.
If you had Coach Greg Glassman's ear, what would you ask him? Of all the famous professional athletes (past or present) in the world, who, if trained in our sport, do you think would make a top competitor in the CrossFit Games?
If you could give new CrossFit affiliates one piece of advice, what would it be? Become a presence in your community. Give back to your community. Know everyone - and make sure they know you. Make a "WOW" first impression - and keep your bathrooms clean!
What does your gym need more of? Space.
What does your gym need less of? Random stuff left behind.
Chalk? Or no chalk? We actually outlawed chalk at one point last year. It was the Great Chalk Ban of '09. After much protest, we brought it back - with a ton of rules. We use bison chalk balls now - which are good. And we use a weed-eater sprayer on wheels (filled with floor sanitizer) to spray down the floors/equipment after each class!
