CrossFit East (and owner TJ Cooper) step into the CrossFit Affiliate Snapshot:

  • Affiliate Since: Sept 2003 (Launched on the net)
  • Location: Jacksonville, FL, USA (a.k.a. The Birth of the Certs)
  • Sq Ft: Functioning Police Academy and State College. Full locker rooms with showers, separate gyms and weight rooms, 3 O-Courses, Track, Pool, etc. (Host to 2009 Dirty South Regionals.)
  • Number of Members: Min of 70. Max affected by Academy recruits, college students, LEO, Tactical Units . . . "Hundreds" . . .
  • How many times have you moved your affiliate location? Never.
  • Greatest joy as a CrossFit affiliate: Seeing our family of local affiliates respect each other, come together as a family, and spread the same concept of fitness in our respective boxes. Respect!

Wait, there's more! Keep reading . . .

  • Biggest worry as a CrossFit affiliate: Defense of the Brand.
  • Do you Facebook? No
  • Do you Twitter? No.
  • If you had Coach Greg Glassman's ear, what would you ask him? Nothing, I call him and we talk nearly as freely as we did in the beginning. The coach told me when this started: "I believe in what you have, teach people and see where it goes. Then give it to others to teach too." I don't know that I have, but I try every day.
  • If you could give new CrossFit affiliates one piece of advice, what would it be? Grow your community, and listen to each other. Come together often, and grow stronger together. When you can't do it as well, or you think another box fits them better, send them. With your blessing.
  • What does your gym need more of? O-Platforms and Rubber Matting. (Believe it!)
  • What does your gym need less of? ??
  • Chalk? Or no chalk? Chalk!

The Godfather of our CrossFit community here in Jacksonville, TJ Cooper is by far the most generous, kind, humble & selfless person around. CFJAX is proud to be a small part of the CrossFit East family!

Happy to be part of the TJ Mafia, as coined by John Brown. TJ's reach is deep, far, and wide.

TJ Cooper was THE instrumental person in getting the CF ball rolling here in Illinois LE culture. Thanks TJ for all the support and resources you have given to us here in the Midwest.

TJ was one of our coaches at the Basic Barbell Certification March 2009 at CF Milford (CT).

His knowledge and tone of voice was so reassuring and helped each athlete to BELIEVE they were capable of a properly executed lift.
