Angela Desjarlais of CrossFit Regina (Canada) races to a bronze medal in the Toughest Competitor Alive competition in the 2009 World Police and Fire Games held in Vancouver: Read. But what's really interesting is what Angela said about her preparation: "This year I only did CrossFit to train . . . Four years ago I trained (non-CrossFit) for 2 hours a day/5 days a week and I competed at the world class level and placed 9th out 15. This year I trained 20min-40min/5 days a week and got a medal."
Another tale of success (at the Mud Run) from CrossFit Hampton Roads (VA): Read.
Competitions are fun, but do they do anything for your business? Andy Petranek (CrossFit LA) thinks the annual Fight Gone Bad fundraiser can actually boost your membership: Video.

Congrats, Angela.
I guess they dont want to give you and CrossFit credit.
Sorry -- just fixed the wording that might have given you that impression, Blanco. Angela's quote was on the CFR blog, not in the newspaper. All is cool!
In case you're interested in what the event entails and my results:
5 Km. Run (3.1 mile) 24:01
Shotput 8ft55
100 Meter Dash (110 yd)14.5sec
100 Meter Swim (110 yd)2min:03sec
6.1m Rope Climb (20 foot)18.9sec
Bench Press 170.9lbs
Pull-ups 14 (done on a beep every 3sec)
Obstacle Course 1m:54sec
The Qualifiers and Last Chance Qualifiers were way more taxing on my body, but good preparation for this all day event.
BIG Congrat's to you Angela! Stay safe and thanks for your service,
Greg Amundson
Thank you. That means alot to me!
Unfortunately for me the swim holds more point value then the bench press, otherwise it may have been a gold/silver. Swimming is my weakness. Looks like I have new goals to achieve:)
Way to go Angela! We're all proud of you, and your hard work. By the way, Angela is a mother of 2. I'm always more impressed when it's a CrossFit Mama doing such amazing things!
