You're never too old to CrossFit: Proof positive at CrossFit Agoge, CrossFit Evolution, and CrossFit Regina.

What's the "mature" population like at your affiliate? Do you have any older members -- or run anything special for them? Did you ever think of having a "Masters" competition at your affiliate?

We have a very special lady who works with us. Marsha is 61, and was "pushed" to us by her son Brian of CF Ramstein fame. Marsha does our usual workouts, scaled of course for her strength. When she started in January, she couldn't do a push up ... now she can do over 10. She just got back from a golfing vacation in Florida. She told me she was whacking the ball, taking about 15 strokes off her game! Wow, explosive opening of the hips really works!

I'd love to have more mature folks in our box. And a Virginia masters competition ... fabulous!

We have a larger than average percentage of "older" athletes.

I made the mistake of trying to start a 'senior' class but it wasn't taking off. Then I realized we have clients ranging in age from 13 to 71 all in the same class, all pushing hard, all succeeding and all encouraging each other.....end of senior class.

We now have more 'seniors' than ever and I think they feel great being part of the intense groups. -especially when they get to school some punk 30 years younger!

I try not to put limits on my expectations for them. While we do scale and take a cautios approach at times, I am constantly being stretched in my ideas of what a 'senior' is!

Some current benchmarks:
62 year old man last week hit 7 consecutive Push-ups (on the last round of a 10 min AMRAP!)

71 yo woman completed 21-15-9 hanging knee raises and jumping pull-ups last friday- her 3rd week here, in less than 8 min.

more than I should take up room here with...

We have a large older group. Our average client is late 40s. Our late 40s and 50s folks can smoke folks half their age quite frequently. We love it!

Right now we have two older gentlemen that we train. One who comes three times a week (60 years young) and loves the fact that he is learning something new and seeing results on a daily basis. The other is 85, which I work 1 on 1. I have specific programming for him that we do in the pool to work on coordination and strength since our main goal is to rebuild his confidence in walking. We use the pool like power lifters use chains, ex. Squats lighter in the lower position and heavier when his torso is out of the water. I get to work on my “patience” muscle, which I know makes me a better coach.

I'll be 59 (LORD willing) in August, and love the WOD's!

I've been doing CF here at CF NoHo here in CA twice a week for about 4 weeks. I just signed up for one year unlimited. Did I say I'm hooked? My goal for my 64th birthday in September is to do one pullup and who knows what wonders my body will be able to do by 65!

Anyone old(er) or young should check out Jacinto at the Manhattan box. He's my hero! http://crossfitnyc.com/2009/07/wed-jul-2.html#comments
