Meet Joe Petrusky of CrossFit Love, our 1,000th affiliate.

The first CrossFit affiliate arrived on 10/11/2002. In the past year alone, we've added close to 700 affiliates to our family. CrossFit affiliates bang out the WOD everyday in 48 U.S. states and on six continents, and we even have practicing CrossFitters on Antarctica.

Today, we thank our entire CrossFit family for making this day possible. We'd be nothing without you.

Now, let's hear from Joe. His story is his own, but it sounds like so many of us too:

"CrossFit has given me so much already. I am now the owner of my own business, my health and fitness levels have sky-rocketed, and I plan to continue to help as many people as possible by giving them the power to help themselves as well. I plan to take this opportunity to be not only the best damn coach I can be, but the best damn person I can be."

"How I Got Here" by Joe Petrusky

I never knew what I was going to do when I grew up. I guess I was looking for my "Dare To Be Great" opportunity.

Throughout high school and even college, I was not sure where the water was going to lead me. After graduating from Penn State with a B.A. in Communications, I somehow turned to the mortgage banking world. The thoughts of big checks and big business were what I had my sites on.

I grew up in a small town called Minersville, PA. If you are not familiar (which you probably are not unless from there) it's a tiny coal-mining town in the middle of Nowhere, PA. Now, I cherish my childhood and the way I was raised. I could not ask for a better up bringing and family, but I always believed I was going to do something big. Let's just say the days of wearing a suit and working my a** just for 12 - 15 hours a day with little care for what I did wouldn't last long.

One day, it all came to a screeching halt. I quit my job and started working towards becoming a trainer. There was always a passion for health and fitness in me. So I took a job that paid very little and just learned as much as I could from the people around me.

A few facilities later, I found CrossFit and there my journey begins.

Since then, I have engulfed myself with as much knowledge as I can get my hands on. My passion for nutrition, cooking, and living a cleaner, healthier lifestyle has changed who I am. The levels of sacrifice and dedication I bring to my daily life now have made me a greater person, and, as I continue along my journey, I know I will become only stronger. Thanks for helping me find that "dare to be great" opportunity.

Welcome to the club Joe! As you know this is one of the most rewarding decisions you'll ever make. Helping people the way we all do in Crossfit is second in importance in my life after only my family. Congratulations on your new affiliate and I wish you great success !

Joe as a relatively long time crossfitter of Philadelphia and as member of Crossfit Center City (sorry I'm already spoken for) let me say welcome and congratulations. The city of brotherly love has lots of love to pass around.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Joe Petrusky at March 2, 2009 7:33 PM

Congratulations JP this is great!
Someone in your family that actually understands you being the headliner for the CF WOD page. Good luck to you. I'll have to make a side trip on my way to Skyukill co. Come up with a good (OK maybe easy) WOD I'll stop by. Did a WOD 20 pull up, 20 push up, 20 situp and 20 squats for 4 or 5 rounds. I'm getting there. Thanks for the final push into crossfit.

Welcome Joe!

It's wonderful to see CF growing.

Let's hope our growing family stays as close as we were when we had 100 affiliates.

I don't know what's more amazing, 1000 affiliates, or 700 in the last year! What is even more amazing is that things seem to continue to grow at an exponential rate. Any bets that we'll hit 2000 affiliates before 2010?
