I think it's great that people are using different music than just harsh, hardcore stuff. Great job!

In my humble opinion, here are four CF faces to carve into stone:

TJ Cooper (CrossFit East)
>The Godfather of CF in Northeast FL. Brings a selfless attitude to the game and fosters a collaborative and supportive local affiliate community.

Dave Werner (Level 4: CrossFit Seattle)
>Hands down, Dave runs the best classes out there. If you haven't tasted his special recipe of CF Kool-aid, you're missing the boat. Innovator in programming, equipment, and getting the most out of your box. Large and growing membership.

Doug Chapman (HyperFit USA)
>In Michigan, one of our most economically depressed and fitness averse states, DChap has built one of the largest CF memberships in the country. Owns the title "Best Gym in Detroit" and has one of the premier boxes on the map.

Andy Petranek (CrossFit LA, Petranek Fitness)
>Has elevated the VALUE of the CF service to clients, and set precedents for higher margin, self sustaining business practices. Also, regularly contributes to the Afflilate community through a business blog.

This does not include all of the great people and trainers that I've come across through the affiliation process and certifications (too many to post here); However, thank you all.

That Speal Halloween costume was... well they say imitation is the finest form of flattery, but I think this was an exeption... hilarious!

Great handstand, Chad.

Who should be our Lincoln? Hmmm... that's a tough one... Can I get back to you on that?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Lincoln at November 3, 2008 9:22 AM

Jolie & Freddy. No contest.

All good suggestions. Excellent trainers and just darn good people.

Now, how about the rest of the CF World? Surely there's somebody out there that is doing an awesome job that we have not highlighted in some manner. Somebody else who is, as my mother would say, "the cat's pajamas."

Let's name somebody who's doing a kick-a** job and should be pointed out to this community.

Or are the rest of us all just mediocre?

Mount Rushmore depicts the faces of 4 distinct US presidents. I am going to liken each president with the CrossFit person who resembles their persona the best.

-Greg Glassman would take the spot on the far left instead of George Washinton. That comparison is self explanatory.

-Mark Rippetoe would replace Thomas Jefferson. Rip is a brilliant author, educated and very unapologetic to the people and organizations that see differently than him. Jefferson was also brilliant, an author and incredibly unapologetic.

-Mike Burgener would take the place of Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt lead the "Rough Riders" into Haiti and describes that time in his life as the most fulfilling of his days. It doesn't take a stretch of imagination to see Mike Burgener shoulder to shoulder with Teddy charging San Juan Hill.

-Nicole Carrol and Tony Budding would take the place of Abraham Lincoln. Nicole and Tony have been with Greg for a very long time. Nicole runs the training/certification portion while Tony runs the media. Without their toil, CrossFit as I know it would be completely different. What would our nation resemble had Lincoln not signed the emancipation proclamation? I don't know. I do know that I love Nicole's enthusiasm and I am hopelessly addicted to Tony's videos.

Speal signed our comments page, he likes the costume! What an honor, to have such a great athlete stop by and leave a quick note. Thanks Lisbeth!

BTW, CF Rushmore should include the 1st person with a sub 2-min Fran.

The Top 4 Early Pioneers for me:
Jeff Martin
Doug Chapman
Coach Rut
Andy Petranek

Plenty more on the list.
These 4 were out there early and often placing solid footsteps for others to follow.

1. I'm with Lincoln B. on Lincoln.
2. Jefferson Martin for Jefferson. Goatee and all.
3&4. And is it just a coincidence that Mt. Baker CF's address is: 1100 Roosevelt Suite D - Mt. Vernon Washington - which means Skip's head goes up there twice.

Lincoln, Jeff, Skip, Skip. Or we could skip the second Skip.

Well, if we're following the directions and putting up which affiliate trainers belong on CrossFit's Mt. Rushmore, it's without question that the two men who created the first affiliate that belong up there, Dave Werner and Nick Nibbler. Their foresight is the reason most of us have a place to train these days, not to mention that they were hosting a regional "CF Championship" well in advance of the CF Games, not to mention their innovation in creating the Skill Levels.
Other early adopters and innovators that spring to mind, whose early efforts we should all be grateful for include;
Robb Wolf, Kelly Moore, Lynn Pitts, TJ Cooper, David Leys, Greg Amundsen, Lani Lau, David Wood, Greg Everett, Josh Everett...more to follow, have to teach class.

Adriana Grassi aka "Queen" and Lance Mosley aka "Heinz" from Crossfit Hardcore. Their passion and dedication is infectious and inspires everybody at Crossfit Hardcore. It is definitely an elite crossfit gym with a great following thanks to the passion they both have for crossfit. As they say, "they don't just preach this lifestyle, they live it."

Paul Beckwith owner of Carolina Crossfit. He took a huge risk and started out with 500 square feet in an office building. He now has a huge ,well equipped facility. We just celebrated Carolina Crossfit's first anniversary.
Paul is a great coach and teacher and is one of the most unselfish people I know.He leaves no stone unturned in making sure everyone gets the best.Young, old, fit and unfit all get the same attention and respect. He is a great example of the Crossfit culture
