Felicia Ennis of Fitness Beyond The Box and Sandy Garcia of CrossFit Central teach Dave (Canyoneering Guide) how to squat in someplace definitely "beyond the box." Where do you think this is? Post your guesses in Comments.

Taking your CF skills elsewhere is always interesting. What's the craziest place you've done something CrossFittish? A forest? A cave? A bar? A supermarket? Tell us! Or, show us with photos!

OHS with a surfboard? Put your eyes on this video from CrossFit Amelia Island.

Hehe...

During a weekend in Newquay, UK, did the surfboard OHS, burpees on a crowded beach (a few times), burpees on a cliff edge...

It never seems crazy to me because It's were I spend a lot of time but I do handstand work in the ER were I work. Just grab the wall space and kick up for max holds. It's great comic relief for patients who are in some kind of pain to watch me in disbelief as I crash to the floor! Yea Haw!
Or I'll go over to the X-ray department to do L-sits on the two counter tops in the reading room. Hospitals are great places to CF! Whoot!

Once at home depot I OHS'd a hollow pillar. It was about 10' long and had an 8" diameter, but only weighed maybe 50 lbs. I just grabbed it and did a few squats to impress my girlfriend. Nobody was around but maybe the security cameras got it.

Looks like Arches to me, but there's lots of Utah that looks like that.

Comment #4 - Posted by: PatrickH at October 21, 2008 3:29 AM

"CrossFittish" ... great word!
hahaha

Comment #5 - Posted by: Shana A. CrossFit East Decatur at October 21, 2008 3:40 AM

My guess would be somewhere in the Red Rock area of CO.
Crazy places: Doing burpee pull-ups using the roof access ladder in the back of a Wendys in Burlington, IO. (talk about strange looks at the drive up)

I got this - Newark, New Jersey.
Actually - kind of looks like the land fill over here in Ft Lauderdale.

Comment #7 - Posted by: steve@CrossFitAffliction-Ft Lauderdale at October 21, 2008 6:49 AM

Steve, you are soooo wrong.

Upper East Side, Manhattan.

And Shana, I think we could adapt that "CrossFittish" word in many ways. It almost sounds like something you would buy at Zabar's. ("I'll take a pound of lox and give me some of that CrossFittish too.")

Comment #8 - Posted by: Lisbeth at October 21, 2008 7:06 AM

My family & I were stuck in traffic on the Florida Turnpike for 4 hrs after an MVC. W/ the extra time to spare we took care of that day's burpees for the Burpee Challenge & also provided a way to stay awake as it was 3am.

Comment #9 - Posted by: FireBlaine at October 21, 2008 7:54 AM

It's Moab, Utah.

What did I win?

Comment #10 - Posted by: John T at October 21, 2008 8:03 AM

A Burpee at Muscle Beach.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Rory at October 21, 2008 8:14 AM

It's downtown Tokyo.

Really, can't you people see that?

Rub the CrossFittish out of your eyes and wake up!

(Okay, "CrossFittish" is now officially the Word of the Day. Feel free to use it however you can!)

Comment #12 - Posted by: Lisbeth at October 21, 2008 9:03 AM

Lot of places it could be but since they've got a canyoneering guide with them it has to be one of the more popular tourist hikes. The red rocks say northern Arizona or Utah, gotta go with Utah for popular canyons.

Handstands in the middle of the street in a snow storm is most crazy Crossfit thing I've done. Got pics of that somewhere. Not all that crazy since it was too slick for cars.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Lincoln at October 21, 2008 10:30 AM

Lisbeth,
I seem to recall some "Crossfittish" activities occurring at the Rusty Nail in Stowe, Vermont a few months back....

burpees, squats, and handstands...

Comment #14 - Posted by: Brian Y at October 21, 2008 10:32 AM

No Crossfittish usage....but I have a CrossFetish..Women's CrossFit 'bums'!

I'm guessing UTAH...it's beautiful out there!

Comment #15 - Posted by: Nick at OTG at October 21, 2008 11:01 AM

Brian -- yes, and there was CrossFittishing by unnamed CrossFitters on Main St. in Stowe until that woman opened her shutters and yelled something about the late hour.

Or so I've heard.

And Nick -- a CrossFetish -- love it!

Comment #16 - Posted by: Lisbeth at October 21, 2008 11:31 AM

I hit a killer handstand at my day job...our plumbing and heating supply business. What kind of reaction do you think I got from a bunch of happy plumbers?

not so much...

CrossFetish? who have I gotten myself involved with at OTG?

...slow burpees

Comment #17 - Posted by: Mark at OTG at October 21, 2008 12:06 PM

Best Guess would be Zion National Park in Utah.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Ray Lopez at October 21, 2008 2:38 PM

Sedona Arizona?

Comment #19 - Posted by: Tom Styles at October 21, 2008 3:02 PM

Hold the presses, the Rusty Nail is still there?
I haven't been to Stowe in 12 years, but know the mountain like the back of my hand; my recollections of the Nail are much hazier.

Comment #20 - Posted by: a noble at October 21, 2008 3:20 PM

My guess is the Australian Outback among the Olga's.

Comment #21 - Posted by: KCN at October 21, 2008 4:34 PM

Handstand push-ups at "the end of the world" in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Or "Cindy" on the patio of our tent in Namibia, Africa.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Stun Gun at October 21, 2008 4:36 PM

Did they tell us the answer yet? Now I need to know.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Steven@CrossFitAffliction at October 21, 2008 5:46 PM

You are all soooooo far off base.... It is obviously South Florida.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Todd Lynch - CrossFit BGI at October 21, 2008 6:46 PM

"a noble"

Yep, the Rusty Nail is still there.

I am actually surprised I remembered the name considering "the haze" I also experienced!!!

Comment #25 - Posted by: Brian Y at October 21, 2008 7:01 PM

Gee Whiz! You all are CrossFETISH!

I apologize for being tardy with the answer about where this photo was taken -- so many amusing responses and guesses, it's fun to think of that photo being in S. FLA, don't you think? Though, from what I've seen of Florida, it's really flat there!

The photo was taken on Fitness Beyond The Box's recent Canyoneering Adventure - and, yes, we were in Utah; in the Moab area. For those of you who guessed Moab, or Arches, you're really close. We were within miles of both of those places.

I cannot, however, divulge the exact location, or our guide and outfitter will likely never take us to one of his hidden places again. We didn't see anyone (or any footprints) on this particular route. ;-)

Let's just say that we were in a double-secret area near 'The Towers'... outside of Moab, Utah. To find out more, and to 'get some' you CrossFetishers will have to come with us on our next Canyoneering Adventure - we've just added dates: May 8 - 12, 2009.

This, btw, was the easy part of the route - we got to rappel down 100 foot canyon walls, boulder and scramble up and down rock faces, and we even lowered ourselves into a slot canyon. It was a blast and we can't wait to do it again.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Susan at October 21, 2008 7:11 PM

1. During the burpee challenge, in the library while my kids were in story time... usually tried to find a secluded area

2. Also during the challenge, still had 34 left to do, so in the middle of a restaurant/irish pub, most likely in the wee hours of the next day, after winning our softball tournament and a few beers later!

Comment #27 - Posted by: Ann-TPark at October 21, 2008 7:24 PM

Everyone who bikes or hikes in and around Moab, when asked, usually replies "I was in Moab" when they really mean "I was in and around the city of Moab but not really in the city more like just outside of the city nearby to Moab."

Sounds like the closest guess, then, is that guy way early in the thread who said it was Moab. What did he win? Surely he won something.

Comment #28 - Posted by: John T at October 21, 2008 8:48 PM

John -- of course he (you) won something! An entire case of CrossFittish! Enjoy!

Comment #29 - Posted by: Lisbeth at October 21, 2008 9:30 PM

You are right, John -- in and around Moab.
I hadn't been to Moab since (ahem) the early early early days of mountain biking when they started the Fat Tire Festival... so it's been years...

And I'd never hiked or explored the canyons on foot. What a treat! It's a totally different experience - yes, the mountain biking is phenomenal - and now that I am CrossFittish, I enjoyed exploring the area with some climbing gear and using my skills to pull-up, climb over, lower down the gorgeous formations that are around there....

Enjoy your case of CrossFittish - you get one, too.

Comment #30 - Posted by: susan at October 22, 2008 7:30 AM

Last time I saw three yahoos squatting in a canyon, I took a shot at them. I'll tell ya, they sure posed the hell right out of there. It was a hoot.
