CrossFit Central holds a monthly "Under the Bridge" free workout and it just keeps growing and growing. Over 80 gathered for the July event and formed a giant circle to pass and clean medicine balls, which CFC is claiming as the CrossFit Book of World Records entry for the largest Med Ball Clean Circle ever. Can anybody beat 'em?
Helpful Media Tips from Tony Budding (CF Journal Preview): [wmv] [mov]
Organizing and running a large group workout demands good communication between WOD leaders and participants. What's the secret to good communication in a workout or in your business?
Plain talk mixed with civility. In other words, say exactly what you mean but do it in a nice way. It works with your members, it works with your family, and it even works with us here at CrossFit. Try us. If you're an affiliate, speak up in Comments or on the Affiliate Forum and tell us what your business concerns are. We're listening.

That's really cool. It is a lot of med balls no doubt!
By now my biggest concern is whether I can squeeze 1 more hour out of a day.
From a wanna-be affiliate, here ya go:
I'm an avid CrossFitter, and I'm gearing up for my first Cert. My goal is to get certified, affiliate, and open my own box.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give someone in my shoes? (Ideal timelines, courses of study, things to think about and plan for, etc. - it's all good. I'd love to hear what anyone has to say.)
Funny I was just thinking we should start an affiliate help line, lol. I'm moving my affiliate from a globo gym to a small box (around 3500sqf. shes beuatiful). I am very concerned about staying afloat. I have a strong contingecny of crossfitters with me now but know alot of them wont be able to follow me to the new location and we are in need of about 25-30 clients just to pay the bills. Me and my partner are giving it everything we got to make sure we have a quality box that allows clients to get great training and build a strong community. Any advice on staying afloat the first year would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
Chris, Have you heard about the business training that will be held in Prescott AZ 25th - 29th of August? The guys that will be hosting the seminar will teach you everything you need to enroll 50 to 60 clients so you just wont have to pay the bills but turn a healthy profit.
Shoot me an email and I will tell you more about what they will be teaching.
Great idea about the help line, I think you are on to something. I hope Lisbeth passes that suggestion up to HQ

Joe, if you're talking about the Affiliate Training (like the one they do at Petranek Fitness), it sounds amazing.
If you haven't yet seen the main site video from 071808 (yesterday), Chris and Maribel attended that, and are up to over 50 members in just six weeks. Talk about a testimonial.
Thats the one I am talking about. They are doing one in Prescott AZ at my box.
For everyone's info - as far as I know, there are TWO different Affiliate Training programs. One that is being offered on CrossFit.com and being taught by Matt Hunt, and the other is our CrossFit Business Apprenticeship program at Petranek Fitness.
I just want to be really clear... the testimonial in the video you saw on the main site - Maribel and Chris at LaLanne Fitness - that was for Petranek's Buisiness Apprenticeship Program. It is COMPLETELY different from the one being offered through CrossFit.com and being hosed in Prescott, AZ.
If you'd like more information on our business apprenticeship program at Petranek Fitness, contact me at andy@petranekfitness.com or (310) 260-9550.
Andy
And Jeremy - that is AMAZING! 80 people... at ONE time! FANTASTIC... CONGRATULATIONS!
Congrats Jeremy!! We are doing our best to follow in your footsteps and will start using your techniques once our next box is up and running.
I just wish we had the funds to even accomodate that many clients with Dynamax Med Balls...WOW!!
Andy, Me and Mark will be getting in touch with you very shortly about setting up a week to run through your apprenticeship program. I hear it's fantastic and am looking forward to stopping by.
Lisbeth, what ever happened to the list of certified crossfit trainers crossfit.com was supposed to make up? (It was brought up at the affiliate gathering.)
Sorry for the late reply, I'm up here in VT at Concept II and, as you can imagine, internet service can be spotty up here.
All good info being presented here. Thanks for clarifying, Andy, about there being two different business programs in the CF community: Matt Hunt's (which is a CrossFit.com offering) and the Petranek Fitness program. Affiliates are free to choose whatever program they wish. You can find a host of people offering testimonies to the great benefits of each program.
(In addition, we're trying to offer free helpful information to affiliates who perhaps cannot afford to attend such programs.)
Nick -- I know that list is an ongoing project in the Affiliate Support department. I can check on the status of it and get back to you.
Update: with our ever-growing ranks of affiliates, not everything can get top priority. As you all can imagine, there are innumerable projects and incredibly high numbers of e-mails that have to be dealt with on a daily basis by Affiliate Support at CrossFit. Nancy and Lisa do an amazing job running the show. As an affiliate owner and a member of the CF staff, I am constantly amazed at how they manage to keep things running smoothly. There's a lot of work that goes into keeping this program running!
(Nick, that might not be the answer you were looking for, but it's the best I can do right now!)
