No Excuses

Andrew Gustafson of CrossFit Okotoks participated in the OCFA Cert with a broken foot. He did not let this stop him from the jump rope burpee workout. Ever try a one legged burpee?
"The Fabric of Our Society" by Jerry Hill of CrossFit Challenge...
Ok, it's now been confirmed in the Mitchell Report. Our heroes in Major League baseball are taking steroids. As we're now unable to avoid the fact that our favorite American past time is a drug sport, what does it say about us and our society? How do we compete in our everyday lives when our elite athletes think they need to take illegal substances to improve their daily performance?
Today's culture encourages us to seek end products that are “fantasy” ideals. With an emphasis on a look or a number, the path taken to obtain these often illusive goals is irrelevant and only becomes the focus when brought to light in a newsworthy scandal. We can ask each other if the true meaning of competition and elite performance is undervalued for our professional athletes, but a better question might be if the fitness image and standard path to achieve it is even more ridiculous for you and me.
A main villain in perpetuating these much sought after images is the health and fitness industry. Everyone is led to believe there is an easy way to get fit. With 64% of Americans overweight the quick fixes just aren't working. The problem is that no one's asking what it really means to be healthy and fit. The focus is on how to get the six-pack abs and the tight buns. Why aren’t more of us asking how to be strong, skilled, energetic, and highly conditioned humans (athletes) so we can have functional dominance when faced with the tasks and stress of our daily life? Seems to me the health of our Nation is at an all time low with no means in sight to reverse this epidemic. Isn't it interesting though that the weight loss, food, health, and fitness industry is making its' billions peddling their supplements, products, pills, and yes even magic workout programs. So, is it news that baseball players are looking for the ultimate quick fix, or is it more shocking that we are?
There is no single external force greater than the resolve that we all internally possess. When the paradigm in fitness changes its present focus of the image in the mirror to building character and inner strength, we will see our Nation on the road to true health once again.

what great words. bravo jerry hill, bravo!
Good stuff Jerry! Happy Holidays!
Where's the video of Andrew in action?
No excuses!
Awesome.
Happy Holidays all!
This whole baseball thing would be easier to ignore if it wasn’t a refection of what we’ve become...
Long live the Spirit of CrossFit!
May we make an Impact on the fabric of our society...
In Strength,
Jerry
Just amazing. To the point and just true as hell.
Merry Christmas
and
Merry XFITMAS
Actually, I think the Mitchell report says something good about our society and us. It says that we are unwilling to continue to look the other way while people cheat. Good for us and good for Major League Baseball.
Hari, spoken like a kool-aid drinking baseball fan, ya gotta let go bro...we've known for 4 years...We shouldn't need congress or a report to make a stand...it's called character...and sadly a few pat on the backs and "good for us" will only continue the cycle.
How many in that report will be signed this next year?
Time will tell...
MLB and its fan’s perpetuated this steroid madness; the players are the by product…just like the health, fitness, and weight loss industry perpetuates the BS we see daily in that arena...
CrossFit will make an impact.
Happy Holidays my friend.
Jerry,
I blame MLB completely. I am delighted that something is being done. My point is that the Mitchell Report, I hope, is the beginning of the end of a sad period in baseball, during which players, fans, and MLB were all lying to one another. In this sense, the Mitchell Report is a positive development.
Thank you, Mr. Hill!!
---Why I love Crossfit: (as compared to the schlock being peddled by most of the fitnes media)
It IS a 'result driven' workout/diet philosophy, but as you stated--OUR results we work for our strenght of character, internal strength, and the ability to overcome whatever obstacles confront us in life! So here's to REAL health and wellness--what I wish for you all this season and always!
Oddly enough, I'm recovering from a broken ankle and was just experimenting with some one legged burpees last week--Very high suck-factor!
