PAINSTORM!

The History:
The first Painstorm was a gathering of some of the UK Crossfitters. Given that some of them traveled up 6 hours (by bus) for the meeting, no one felt like doing Fran and calling it a day. So the first Painstorm was something like warm up one round of Helen, followed by a typical CF WOD, followed by the Secret Service Snatch test, and of course partying afterwards.

The Painstorm soon evolved into a monthly competition between CrossFit London (represented by Kempie and Karl Steadman), CrossFit Central Scotland (represented by Davie and his crew) some displaced US military (Gordon Limb and some marine flyers in London, Brian White and his group called team Fallujah) and the group from Brand X. Dan Colson from CrossFit Rockford has "happily" joined in for the last three or four.

Karl, Davie and Jeff take turns creating the Painstorms. They tend to be long efforts, in keeping with the original tradition. Weights and reps are scaled of course, so everyone can join in.

The Future:
Each month we will post the Painstorm workout so other affiliates can compete and post times...though the veterans doubt you even have the guts to try it, let alone compete with them.

49:58 as Rx'd
16kg KB used.

Other people here at Brand-X stormed through it in under 40 minutes. However, in my defense, I was using the heaviest KB!

ploughed my way through doggedly with the 20kg.

53min 26secs.
a long hard slog.
consoled by the fact that 20kg is about a third of my bodyweight.

Oh I love the PainStorms!

I've had the pleasure of participating in several at Brand X and even one with Karl and Rachel while I was across the pond.

Great fun. Stupid fun. Can't wait to see what other brave souls dare to join us!

Karl asked me to post his time

53:19 using a 16kg kettlebell

Comment #9 - Posted by: DavidE at October 16, 2006 6:56 AM

Aka Mr Bourgot from cf london.

About 49 minutes, Mark and Karl will know the exact time. 16 kg kettlebell, 12kg dumbbell for the single arm swings and the snatches. Everything hurts.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Pete J at October 16, 2006 7:04 AM

graeme was mad enough to do this twice in the space of 3 days.
attempt 1 = 48.26 with 20kg
attempt 2 = 38.37 with 20kg

(both times subbed extra waiters walk for broad jumps and lunge walk)
